Hadith 2377

Narrated Anas (ra): The Prophet (saws) called the Ansar so as to grant them a portion of (the land of) Bahrain. They said, "O Allah's Messenger ! If you grant this to is, write a similar document on our Quraish (emigrant) brothers." But the Prophet (saws) did not have enough grants and he said: "After me you will see the people giving preference (to others), so be patient till you meet me."

Hadith Commentary:

If the government grants someone an estate as a reward, it is necessary to write its deed so that it may benefit them in the future and no one may usurp their right.

In India, the Muslim kings engraved many such deeds on copper plates and gave them to the caretakers of many temples, in which lands were mentioned for them. Yet, such is the evil of prejudice that today their glorious history is being distorted and an atmosphere is being created against the Muslims.

Allahumma unsur al-Islam wa al-Muslimin. Ameen.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
There are two additional points in this hadith:
First, that the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) intended to write an official document regarding the grant of land so that it would be recorded and there would be no disputes or conflicts in the future. Second, that at that time, it was not possible to fulfill the desire of the Ansar. The circumstances were such that perhaps the land of Bahrain was not sufficient in quantity to accommodate both the Muhajirun and the Ansar.

(2)
This hadith shows that if the government wishes to grant land as a reward to someone, it is necessary to write an official deed so that it may benefit them in the future and no one else can usurp their right. The deeds granted by the kings of Islam are still displayed as adornments in museums today. According to the circumstances, doing so is necessary.
