Hadith Commentary:
(1)
It is explicitly mentioned in the hadiths that the slave’s name was Ya‘qub, his master’s name was Abu Madhkur al-Ansari, and the one who purchased him was Nu‘aym ibn ‘Abdullah, who bought him for eight hundred dirhams. Since his owner was in debt and had no property other than this slave, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) sold him.

(2)
From this, the seriousness of debt becomes evident, as for its sake even a mudabbar slave can be auctioned, even though this slave was to be set free after his master’s death.
