The Book of Sales (Bargains)
بَابُ بَيْعِ النَّخْلِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَبْدُوَ صَلاَحُهَا:
(86) Chapter. The sale of date-palms (date trees) before their benefit is evident. (i.e., their dates are ripe).
Hadith 2197
حَدَّثَنِي عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعَلَّى بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ الرَّازِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ ، أَخْبَرَنَا حُمَيْدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنَّهُ " نَهَى عَنْ بَيْعِ الثَّمَرَةِ حَتَّى يَبْدُوَ صَلَاحُهَا ، وَعَنِ النَّخْلِ حَتَّى يَزْهُوَ " ، قِيلَ : وَمَا يَزْهُو ؟ قَالَ : يَحْمَارُّ أَوْ يَصْفَارُّ .
Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet forbade the sale of fruits till their benefit is evident; and the sale of date palms till the dates are almost ripe. He was asked what 'are almost ripe' meant. He replied, "Got red and yellow."
