Hadith Commentary:
In the same way, it is impermissible to exchange fresh dates for dry dates in equal measure, because fresh dates become less in weight when they dry. This is the opinion of the majority of scholars.
Imam Abu Hanifah rahimahullah has considered it permissible.
‘Araya’ is the plural of ‘ariyyah’.
The Hanafis, contrary to the majority of scholars, have not permitted ‘araya’ either, because they also consider it to fall under the category of muzabana (sale of fresh dates for dry dates by estimation). And we say that wherever the prohibition of muzabana has been mentioned, it is also stated there that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam permitted ‘araya’.
