Narrated Ibn `Umar: The Prophet forbade Muzabana; and Muzabana is the selling of fresh fruit (without measuring it) for something by measure on the basis that if that thing turns to be more than the fruit, the increase would be for the seller of the fruit, and if it turns to be less, that would be of his lot.

Hadith Commentary:
Muzabana sale is when fresh dates are bought in exchange for dried dates based on estimation, and at the time of purchase it is said that if the estimated dates, which are considered equal in measure, turn out to be more, then the excess will be mine, and if they are less, then I myself will bear the loss.
There is a risk of harm to one of the parties in this type of transaction; therefore, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) prohibited it.

Explanation:
1:
The situation of ‘Araya is as follows: for example, a person gives the fruit of one or two trees from his orchard to a needy person, but after giving it, the repeated coming and going of that person causes him inconvenience. So he says:
Brother, estimate and take dry or fresh dates from us, and leave the fruit of this tree for us. Although this is technically muzabana (exchange of fresh dates for dry dates), since it is a necessity, and it is also being given to the needy, it has been declared permissible.
