Hadith Commentary:
(1)
After migrating to Madinah Tayyibah, the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) would exert themselves for their livelihood and would engage in trade, agriculture, and labor with their own hands. Since it was a time of poverty, they would wear coarse woolen garments, and when they would come to the mosque for Jumu‘ah (Friday prayer) in these same clothes, due to sweating, an unpleasant odor would emanate from their bodies. Therefore, they were advised that it is better to perform ritual bath (ghusl) so that others are not harmed by this unpleasant smell.

(2)
From this hadith, it is understood that the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum) would work hard themselves and did not like to become a burden upon others.
