Hadith 1882

Narrated Abu Sa`id Al-Khudri: Allah's Apostle told us a long narrative about Ad-Dajjal, and among the many things he mentioned, was his saying, "Ad-Dajjal will come and it will be forbidden for him to pass through the entrances of Medina. He will land in some of the salty barren areas (outside) Medina; on that day the best man or one of the best men will come up to him and say, 'I testify that you are the same Dajjal whose description was given to us by Allah's Apostle .' Ad-Dajjal will say to the people, 'If I kill this man and bring him back to life again, will you doubt my claim?' They will say, 'No.' Then Ad-Dajjal will kill that man and bring him back to life. That man will say, 'Now I know your reality better than before.' Ad-Dajjal will say, 'I want to kill him but I cannot.' "

Hadith Commentary:

In reality, the Dajjal does not have the power to kill someone and then bring him back to life; this is an exclusive attribute of Allah. However, Allah, the Exalted, will manifest this sign at the hands of the Dajjal in order to test the believers.
Ignorant people will accept the Dajjal’s claim to divinity, but those who are true believers and recognize their true Lord will not be affected by this. Rather, their faith in the Dajjal being a disbeliever and impostor will only increase.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The deceivers (dajjal) of the present age have invented such means that they can travel around the whole world in just a few hours. When the real Dajjal comes, who knows to what extent the series of inventions will have reached by then. Therefore, it is not far-fetched for him to travel around the face of the earth in a short period. However, his official entry into Madinah Tayyibah and Makkah Mukarramah will be prohibited. He will set up his camp on the stony ground of Madinah Tayyibah. People, out of fear, will go along with him, but they will not have the slightest doubt about his being the Dajjal and thus being outside the fold of religion.

(2)
The Dajjal does not have the power to kill someone and then bring him back to life, because resurrecting the dead is an attribute of Allah. However, Allah Ta'ala, in order to test the believers, will manifest this miracle at the hands of the Dajjal, so that a line of distinction may be established between the believers and the hypocrites. Thus, seeing his trickery, ignorant people will accept his divinity, but the true believers will not be affected by him in the least; rather, their faith in his being a disbeliever and a deceiver (Dajjal) will increase even more.

We will discuss this hadith in detail in the Book of Tribulations (Kitab al-Fitan), inshaAllah.

This will be the best person of the Ummah through whom the Dajjal will be decisively defeated.

Hadith Commentary:

In another hadith, it is mentioned that the Dajjal will call a young man,
and he will cut him into two pieces,
just as an object set up for target practice is split into two pieces. Then he will bring him back to life and call him,
so that young man will come towards him with a radiant and smiling face.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Fitan, Hadith: 2937(7373))

The Dajjal’s trickery will not work repeatedly; whatever act he performs once,
he will not be able to do it again.
The person mentioned in the hadith will be the best believer of the Ummah, through whom the Dajjal will suffer a humiliating defeat.

Imam Bukhari rahimahullah’s purpose in mentioning this hadith is to show that the Dajjal will not be able to enter Madinah Tayyibah.
Its clarification will come in the next hadith.
And Allah is the One whose help is sought.

Yuqaal hadha, huwa al-Khidr:
Who is the one saying this?
Its specification is not established.
Yes,
this is the view of those
who consider Khidr (alayhis-salam) to be alive;
there is no other evidence for this.
Whereas in the next hadith it is mentioned:
“Rajulun min al-mu’minin”—he will be from among the believers of that era.
