Narrated Anas bin Malik: The Prophet said, "There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal will not enter except Mecca and Medina, and there will be no entrance (road) (of both Mecca and Medina) but the angels will be standing in rows guarding it against him, and then Medina will shake with its inhabitants thrice (i.e. three earthquakes will take place) and Allah will expel all the non-believers and the hypocrites from it."

Hadith Commentary: That is, the Dajjal himself, in his own person, will enter every major city. Imam Ibn Hazm found it problematic that the Dajjal could enter every city in the world in such a short period, so he interpreted it to mean that by the Dajjal’s entering, what is intended is the entering of his followers and armies.
Qastallani said that Ibn Hazm did not consider what is mentioned in Sahih Muslim, that a single day of the Dajjal will be equal to a year.
(Wahidi)
I say that today’s false claimants (dajjajilah) travel around the entire world within a few hours through modern inventions; then, when the real Dajjal comes, who knows to what extent the series of inventions will have reached by that time? Therefore, for him to travel through all the cities in a short period is not something far-fetched.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
It is stated in Sahih Muslim that the Dajjal will remain on this earth for forty days. His first day will be equal to a year. (Sahih Muslim, Al-Fitan, Hadith: 7373(2937)) Therefore, it is not unlikely that during this period he will be able to traverse the entire earth, especially since he will also possess the means and resources of the world. Only his entry into the two sacred sanctuaries (Haramayn) will be forbidden.
(2)
This hadith does not contradict those ahadith which state that the awe of the Dajjal will not enter Madinah Tayyibah, because these earthquakes will occur to expel the hypocrites, so that Madinah Tayyibah may be purified from their filth. Thus, at the third tremor, Allah, the Exalted, will cast out from Madinah Tayyibah those who are not sincere in faith and submission, and then only the pure believers will remain there, and the Dajjal will not be able to harm them in the least. Hadith Commentary:
In this as well, the mention of the Divine Will (mashiyyat ilahiyyah) is made with the phrase "in sha Allah" (if Allah wills).
This is precisely in accordance with the chapter heading, and it is a reality that everything is dependent upon the Will of Allah.

Hadith Commentary:
➊
In a narration of Sahih al-Bukhari, it is clarified:
“The Dajjal will not be able to enter Makkah and Madinah; there, angels will be stationed to guard them.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Fada’il al-Madinah, Hadith: 1881)
It appears that at that time, the Muslim rulers will not have the courage to confront disbelief and the people of disbelief.
Therefore, Allah Ta’ala will appoint angels for the protection of the Two Sacred Sanctuaries (Haramayn Sharifayn).
➋
Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah has established from this hadith the Divine Will (mashi’ah ilahiyyah): that if Allah Ta’ala wills, then neither the Dajjal nor the plague (ta‘un) will be able to enter Madinah Tayyibah.
In some narrations, Makkah Mukarramah is also mentioned, that the disease of plague will not be able to enter there either.
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam has made this dependent upon the Will of Allah Ta’ala: that the protection of the Two Sacred Sanctuaries (Haramayn Sharifayn) from the Dajjal and the plague is contingent upon the Divine Will, which is clearly understood from this hadith.
And Allah knows best.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
The Dajjal will trample the entire world except for the two sacred sanctuaries (Haramayn Sharifayn).
Thus, the noble statement of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is:
“There is no city in which the Dajjal will not enter.
However, he will not be able to enter Makkah and Madinah.
Because angels will be standing in rows on the paths to Makkah and Madinah,
and they will protect them.
When the Dajjal reaches the rocky land of Madinah Tayyibah, there will be three earthquakes, and all the disbelievers and hypocrites present in Madinah Tayyibah will go out to the Dajjal.”
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Fitan, Hadith: 7390(2943))
In another hadith, it is stated that the Dajjal will dominate the entire face of the earth,
except he will not be able to reach Baytullah, the Prophet’s Mosque, Masjid al-Aqsa, and Mount Tur.
(Musnad Ahmad 5/364)
2.
The purpose of Imam Bukhari rahimahullah appears to be that protection from the Dajjal is possible in such a way that the believer should go to the Haramayn Sharifayn and reside there. In this context, it seems appropriate to elaborate a little on how to attain salvation from the accursed Dajjal. According to authentic ahadith, the methods of protection from the Dajjal, in our view, are as follows:
➊ Seeking refuge from the trial of the Dajjal: The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself used to seek refuge from the trial of the Dajjal during prayer, as narrated by Aisha radi Allahu anha, who said that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam used to seek refuge from the Dajjal in his prayer.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Al-Adhan, Hadith: 833)
And he used to instruct the Ummah to seek refuge from the trial of the Dajjal, as the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said to the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in:
“Seek Allah’s protection from the trial of the Dajjal.”
So the noble Companions radi Allahu anhum ajma‘in complied with this command in these words:
“We seek Allah’s protection from the trial of the Dajjal.”
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Masajid, Hadith: 1324(588))
➋ Denying the Dajjal while relying upon Allah:
The one-eyed Dajjal should be thoroughly denied, and complete reliance (tawakkul) should be placed upon Allah.
It is narrated from Hisham bin ‘Amir radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whoever says to the Dajjal, ‘You are my Lord,’ has fallen into the trial, and whoever says, ‘You are a liar, my Lord is Allah, in Him I have placed my trust,’ then the Dajjal will not be able to harm him.”
(Musnad Ahmad: 5/13)
➌ Memorizing the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf:
By memorizing the first ten verses of Surah al-Kahf, protection from the trial of the Dajjal is also possible.
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whoever memorizes ten verses from the beginning of Surah al-Kahf will be protected from the trial of the Dajjal.”
(Musnad Ahmad: 5/196)
In another narration, there is mention of memorizing the last ten verses of Surah al-Kahf as well.
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Malahim, Hadith: 4323)
This means that one may act upon memorizing either the first ten verses or the last ten verses.
And Allah knows best.
➍ Residing in the Haramayn:
We have explained this in the benefits of Hadith 7133 and 7134. However, it should be remembered that the real weapon that protects from the trial of the Dajjal is faith (iman).
If there is no faith, then even residing in the Haramayn will be of no benefit.
Rather, the disbelievers and hypocrites will leave these blessed cities and join the Dajjal,
as is clarified in the hadith.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Fitan, Hadith: 7124)
➎ Avoiding confrontation with the Dajjal:
At the time of the appearance of this trial, avoiding confrontation with him is also an excellent means of protection.
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whoever hears of the Dajjal should avoid coming before him.
By Allah! A man will come to him, thinking himself to be a believer,
but then, after seeing his wonders, will begin to follow him.”
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Malahim, Hadith: 4319)
➏ Participating in jihad against the Dajjal:
For salvation from the trial of the Dajjal, it is necessary to participate in the group of jihad against him, as the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“A group from my Ummah will always continue to fight for the truth
and will prevail over their enemies, until the last group of them fights against the Messiah, the Dajjal.”
(Sunan Abi Dawud, Al-Jihad, Hadith: 2484)

Hadith Commentary:
Vocabulary of the Hadith:
Tarjufu al-Madinah:
Madinah will tremble,
This trembling will not be due to the terror of the Dajjal,
Rather, it will be to frighten and expel the disbelievers and hypocrites residing in Madinah,
The believers will not be affected by it.
