Hadith Commentary:
That is, the widespread plague by which thousands of people die—Allah, through the blessings of the supplications of His Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), has protected Madinah Munawwarah from these calamities.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), there was no wall surrounding Madinah Tayyibah, nor were there any gates installed in it.
Now, work has begun for the protection of Madinah and its people.
The Saudi government has given this city such splendor and development that it is unparalleled.
May Allah Almighty always keep this government established so that it may continue to render more and more religious services.
(2)
Even the fear of Dajjal will not enter Madinah Tayyibah, so he himself, all the more so, will not be able to enter it.
Allah Almighty will have appointed angels there for the protection of the people of Madinah, who will not allow him to enter Madinah.
Similarly, as a result of the supplications of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), general epidemic diseases, such as plague, etc., will also not come there.
(3)
Al-Masih ad-Dajjal is composed of two words:
Masih, because one of his eyes will be deformed (maskh), or because he will travel around the entire earth; and Dajjal, on account of his being a great deceiver and impostor.
May Allah Almighty protect us from him.

Hadith Commentary:
In another narration, Makkah is also mentioned.
Now, this report that in the year 747 AH there was a plague in Madinah Munawwarah is not correct.
Some have said that in the Book of Tribulations (Kitab al-Fitan), Imam al-Bukhari rahimahullah has narrated a report regarding the plague in which the phrase "in sha Allah" is mentioned, by which these epidemics in Madinah and Makkah have been linked to the Divine Will (mashiyyat-e-Ilahi).

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In one hadith, it is mentioned that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Jibril alayhis salam came to me with fever and plague. I chose fever for Madinah Tayyibah and left plague for al-Sham (Greater Syria), for plague is martyrdom and mercy for my ummah and a punishment for the disbelievers.”
(Musnad Ahmad: 81/5)
(2)
The wisdom explained in this is that when the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam arrived in Madinah Tayyibah, his noble companions radi Allahu anhum were very few and even they were in a state of destitution, and Madinah Tayyibah was also a city afflicted by epidemics.
At that time, the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam was given the choice between the two, so he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam chose fever, because it results in very few deaths, whereas plague devastates cities due to the high mortality.
When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam needed to wage jihad against the disbelievers, and fever in such circumstances was a cause of weakness for the Muslims, he sallallahu alayhi wa sallam requested Allah Ta’ala to transfer fever and the like to Juhfah, so Allah Ta’ala transferred it to Juhfah.
From that time, Madinah Tayyibah became a pleasant region.

Jurisprudential Points:
➊ The great Dajjal (al-Masih ad-Dajjal) cannot enter the sanctuary (haram) of Madinah and the sanctuary of Makkah.
➋ Such a plague (ta‘un) cannot come to Madinah by which all the people would die.
➌ Makkah and Madinah are superior to all the cities of the world.
➍ For further benefits, see H353.
➎ Whoever dies from the plague (ta‘un) is a martyr (shahid). See H433.
