Hadith 1877

Narrated Sa`d: I heard the Prophet saying, "None plots against the people of Medina but that he will be dissolved (destroyed) like the salt is dissolved in water."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
The apparent meaning of this hadith is that whoever deceives or schemes against the people of Madinah, Allah will not grant him respite, nor will he be given any power in this world. Historically, it is established that whoever attacked Madinah Tayyibah was not granted much time to remain in this world; rather, he had to depart from here quickly. However, in the hadith of Sahih Muslim, it is stated that whoever deceives the people of Madinah, Allah will melt him in the Fire on the Day of Resurrection just as salt dissolves in water.
(Sahih Muslim, Al-Hajj, Hadith: 3319(1363))

(2)
From this, it is understood that the punishment mentioned in the hadith pertains to the Hereafter, not to this world.
Imam al-Nasa’i rahimahullah narrated from Sayyid bin Khalad radi Allahu anhu that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
“Whoever terrifies the people of Madinah, Allah will terrify him.”
(Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah, Hadith: 2304)
