Hadith 1872

Narrated Abu Humaid: We came with the Prophet from Tabuk, and when we reached near Medina, the Prophet said, "This is Tabah."

Explanation & Benefits
Maulana Dawood Raz
Hadith Commentary:
Taab and Tayyib are both names of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah, which are derived from the word "Tayyib," meaning purity; that is, this city is pure in every respect.
It is the center of Islam, and here rests the Prophet of Islam, the greatest guide, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam.
The government of Saudi Arabia, may Allah support it, has rendered such services in the cleanliness, purity, and development of this city that will remain a memorable example for the world until the end of time.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
There are several names of Madinah Tayyibah which indicate its honor and status:
Tābah and Tayyibah—their derivation is the same, because it has been declared pure from shirk (polytheism) and innovation, and its atmosphere and climate have been made pleasant.
Some of its names are as follows:
• Al-Madinah • Al-Mutayyibah • Al-Maskinah • Al-Dar • Majboorah • Munirah • Mujabbah • Mahbubah • Qasimah • Al-Iman.
(Fath al-Bari: 4/115)
In other historical books, many more names have been mentioned in addition to these.
(2)
Some scholars have stated the reason that the one residing in Madinah Tayyibah finds a pure fragrance from its soil and its walls.
According to us, its purity is that the area between the house of the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) and his pulpit in the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid Nabawi) has been declared a garden from the gardens of Paradise; what could be more pleasant than this? (‘Umdat al-Qari: 7/578)

Hadith Commentary:
Tābah is a name of Madinah Tayyibah, and the love of Mount Uhud is real and based on reality. Allah Ta‘ala is capable of creating perception and feeling in every thing of the universe. The statement of Allah Ta‘ala is:
"Everything in the universe glorifies Allah, but you do not understand their glorification." ( Bani Isra’il: 44: 17)
Since this hadith mentions the Battle of Tabuk, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has mentioned it here.
And Allah is the One whose help is sought.

Benefits and Issues:

This woman’s orchard was most likely established by cultivating barren land,
which was then considered her property.
And this is a commendable deed.
The ruler of Eila had accepted obedience.
Therefore, the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) granted the ruler of Eila his territory in writing, and also that they would pay jizyah (tribute).

It is permissible to estimate the yield of fruit before it is harvested,
so that the appropriate amount of ‘ushr (tithe) and the like can be paid accordingly.

The estimation made by the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) turned out to be absolutely accurate,
which is a miracle.
The estimations of other ordinary assessors are certainly subject to increase or decrease.

It is permissible to accept a gift from a non-Muslim,
provided there is no legal (shar‘i) objection.

Fiqh al-Hadith:
On the occasion of the Battle of Tabuk, when the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said:
«اما إنها ستهب الليلة ريح شديدة فلا يقومن احد، ومن كان معه بعير فليعقله»
"Tonight there will be a very strong wind, so no one should stand up. And whoever has camels should tie them."
↰ The Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said this by the revelation of Allah. Allah had already informed him of this incident beforehand. The noble Companions radi Allahu anhum received news of the coming wind before it arrived, but no one, on the basis of receiving this news, considers the Companions to be 'Knower of the Unseen' (Alim al-Ghayb). So how can it be correct to establish the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam as 'Knower of the Unseen' merely because he received information from Allah? Whereas Allah has clearly stated in the Noble Qur'an, and the Prophet sallallahu alayhi wa sallam himself has clarified in his statements repeatedly, that knowledge of the unseen is exclusive to Allah; no one besides Him knows the unseen!
