Hadith Commentary:
All the wives of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) went for Hajj except for Sawdah and Zaynab (radi Allahu anhuma), who did not leave their homes until their passing.
Initially, Umar (radi Allahu anhu) was uncertain about whether to allow the wives of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) to go out for Hajj or not.
Then he granted them permission and appointed Uthman (radi Allahu anhu) to accompany them for their protection. Later, during the caliphate of Muawiyah (radi Allahu anhu), the Mothers of the Believers also performed Hajj. They rode in howdahs, and coverings were placed over them.
