Hadith 1796

Narrated Al-Aswad: `Abdullah the slave of Asma bint Abu Bakr, told me that he used to hear Asma', whenever she passed by Al-Hajun, saying, "May Allah bless His Apostle Muhammad. Once we dismounted here with him, and at that time we were traveling with light luggage; we had a few riding animals and a little food ration. I, my sister, `Aisha, Az-Zubair and such and such persons performed `Umra, and when we had passed our hands over the Ka`ba (i.e. performed Tawaf round the Ka`ba and between As-Safa and Al- Marwa) we finished our lhram. Later on we assumed Ihram for Hajj the same evening."

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
In this hadith, it is stated that we performed the circumambulation (tawaf) of the Ka'bah and then exited the state of ihram. This does not mean that they did not perform the sa'i between Safa and Marwah. For the sake of brevity, its mention has been omitted. In the detailed narration, the sa'i between Safa and Marwah after the circumambulation of the House of Allah is also mentioned. The omission of these matters in this hadith in no way means that they were abandoned. (Fath al-Bari 3/780)

(2)
When this narration was related by Safiyyah bint Shaybah, it shows that Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) had a sacrificial animal (hady) with him and did not exit the state of ihram after the circumambulation of the House of Allah. However, from this narration, it is understood that Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) exited the state of ihram after performing 'umrah. According to Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah), the narration of Abdullah, the freed slave of Asma', is preferred. 'Urwah ibn Zubair also transmitted it in the same way from his mother Asma', so the preferred view is that Zubair (radi Allahu anhu) also exited the state of ihram and did not have a sacrificial animal (hady) with him. (Fath al-Bari 3/779) And Allah knows best.

(3)
In this, the mention of the circumambulation (tawaf) of 'Aishah (radi Allahu anha) has come predominantly, because she had begun menstruating and had not performed the initial circumambulation of the House of Allah, as is explicitly stated in other narrations.
