Hadith 1779

Narrated Qatada: I asked Anas (about the Prophet's `Umra) and he replied, "The Prophet performed `Umra when the pagans made him return, and Umra of al-Hudaibiya (the next year), and another `Umra in Dhi-l-Qa'da, and another `Umra in combination with his Hajj."

Hadith Commentary:
Those narrators who considered the opening of Ihram and the offering of sacrifice by the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) at Hudaybiyyah to be an ‘umrah, have mentioned four ‘umrahs performed by him (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam). And those who did not consider it to be an ‘umrah have mentioned three ‘umrahs. The only reason for the difference in the narrations is this, and on the basis of these explanations, none of the narrations can be deemed incorrect.
