Hadith Commentary: Near the Day of Judgment, either the birth rate of women will increase, men will be born less, or due to the abundance of battles, the number of men will decrease. This has happened several times.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
It is narrated from Anas (radi Allahu anhu) that fifty women will live under the care of one man.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-‘Ilm, Hadith: 81)
(2)
The number forty mentioned in the above hadith does not negate the possibility of a greater number.
At that time, due to the abundance of tribulations, men will be killed and women will be more numerous; the consequences that will result from this are not hidden from those of insight.
It should be clear that the mentioned women will be from among his mahrams and relatives.
Most likely, this will occur after the descent of ‘Isa (alayhis salam), when the Dajjal will have been killed and blessings will descend from the sky.
Some people have interpreted this as referring to the era of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz (rahimahullah), but this is not correct, because in that era, there was not such widespread killing of men due to tribulations that one man would be the guardian of fifty women.
There is also a third interpretation: that the waw (و) in the mentioned hadith is not for conjunction, meaning that the time of abundance of wealth and the time of the killing of women are not the same; rather, it means that both these events will occur before the Day of Judgment, even if their times are different.
According to this interpretation, the abundance of wealth occurred during the era of ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-‘Aziz (rahimahullah), and the matter of the destruction of women will occur during the era of ‘Isa (alayhis salam); in that era, there will be widespread killing of men among the people of war, and women will remain in abundance.
The abundance of women may perhaps be due to the birth rate of girls becoming higher than that of boys, and it is often observed that among new couples, daughters are born first, and only after a long time does a distinguished son appear in this garden.
And Allah knows best.
