Hadith 1351

Narrated Jabir: When the time of the Battle of Uhud approached, my father called me at night and said, "I think that I will be the first amongst the companions of the Prophet to be martyred. I do not leave anyone after me dearer to me than you, except Allah's Apostle's soul and I owe some debt and you should repay it and treat your sisters favorably (nicely and politely)." So in the morning he was the first to be martyred and was buried along with another (martyr). I did not like to leave him with the other (martyr) so I took him out of the grave after six months of his burial and he was in the same condition as he was on the day of burial, except a slight change near his ear.

Hadith Commentary:
Jabir’s (radi Allahu anhu) father, Abdullah (radi Allahu anhu), was a true devotee of the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), and his heart was filled with the fervor of battle.
He had resolved that he would kill the disbelievers and himself be martyred.
It is said that he also saw a dream in which Mubashir bin Abdullah, who was martyred in the Battle of Badr, was telling him that you wish to join us in these very days.
He narrated this dream to the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) said that martyrdom is written in your destiny.
Thus, this dream proved to be true.
From this hadith, the distinction of a believer is also understood: that the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) is dearest to him above all.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
From this hadith, it is understood that the reason for which a deceased may be exhumed can also pertain to one of their relatives rather than the deceased themselves, because the father of Jabir radi Allahu anhu was exhumed solely to fulfill his wish. This need was not related to the deceased, for if someone is buried with another, it does not cause any harm to the deceased. It was only that Jabir radi Allahu anhu did not like his father being buried with another, so he had him exhumed and buried elsewhere.

(2)
It should be noted that the martyr who was buried with Jabir’s radi Allahu anhu noble father was Amr ibn al-Jamuh radi Allahu anhu, who was his father’s sincere friend and brother-in-law. His sister, Hind bint Amr, brought her brother Abdullah ibn Amr and her husband Amr ibn al-Jamuh to Madinah Munawwarah on a camel so that they could be buried in Jannat al-Baqi‘, but the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam sent them back to the field of Uhud and ordered that they be buried there.
