Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle said, "A woman called her son while he was in his hermitage and said, 'O Juraij' He said, 'O Allah, my mother (is calling me) and (I am offering) my prayer (what shall I do)?' She again said, 'O Juraij!' He said again, 'O Allah ! My mother (is calling me) and (I am offering) my prayer (what shall I do)?' She again said, 'O Juraij' He again said, 'O Allah! My mother (is calling me) and (I am offering) my prayer. (What shall I do?)' She said, 'O Allah! Do not let Juraij die till he sees the faces of prostitutes.' A shepherdess used to come by his hermitage for grazing her sheep and she gave birth to a child. She was asked whose child that was, and she replied that it was from Juraij and that he had come out from his hermitage. Juraij said, 'Where is that woman who claims that her child is from me?' (When she was brought to him along with the child), Juraij asked the child, 'O Babus, who is your father?' The child replied, 'The shepherd.' " (See Hadith No 662. Vol 3).

Hadith Commentary:
Obedience to the mother is obligatory, and the mother’s right is greater than that of the father.
There is a difference of opinion on this issue: some have said that one should not respond (to the call of the mother during prayer); if he does respond, his prayer will become invalid.
Others have said that he should respond, and his prayer will not become invalid. Ibn Abi Shaybah has narrated that if you are in prayer and your mother calls you, then respond to her, but if your father calls you, then do not respond.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has brought the hadith of Jurayj in this chapter, that by not responding to his mother, he (Jurayj) was afflicted (with hardship).
Some have said that in the Shari‘ah of Jurayj, speaking during prayer was permissible, so it was obligatory for him to respond.
He did not respond, so his mother’s supplication (against him) befell him.
In one narration, it is mentioned that if Jurayj had known, he would have responded, because responding to the mother is also an act of worship to one’s Lord.
“Babous” refers to every suckling child, or it may have been the name of that child.
Allah granted him the ability to speak.
He identified his father.
In this way, Jurayj was exonerated from that accusation.
It is understood from this that keeping the mother pleased in every circumstance is necessary for the children; otherwise, her supplication (against them) can destroy the life of the child.

Hadith Commentary:
(1)
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has established with this chapter heading and hadith that when several conflicting matters come together, one should choose the more important and necessary matter.
Juraij should have shortened or ended his prayer (salah) and responded to his mother’s call.
Since he was negligent in this matter, his mother’s supplication (du‘a) against him proved effective.
The prayer could have been performed later, but giving precedence to a mother’s affection was necessary.
Since the accusation made against him was also extremely serious, Allah Ta‘ala, with His perfect power, created a means for his exoneration.
When the newborn child testified to his innocence, it became clear that he was a paragon of truth and honesty.
(2)
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has absolutely not deduced from this chapter heading and hadith that speaking during prayer (salah) is permissible, while Imam Bukhari himself has established a chapter on its prohibition.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-‘Amal fi al-Salah, Chapter: 2)
It is a particularity of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam that if he calls someone while he is praying, it is obligatory for that person to break his prayer and respond to his call, as is mentioned in the hadith.
(Sahih al-Bukhari, al-Tafsir, Hadith: 4847)
There are two issues at this point in which there is a difference of opinion.
Imam Bukhari rahimahullah, due to this difference, did not make a decisive ruling.
The first issue is whether it is necessary to respond to the mother’s call in such circumstances or not. The second issue is, if it is necessary to respond, will the prayer become invalid or not? (Fath al-Bari: 3/102)
Other discussions related to this hadith will be mentioned under Sahih al-Bukhari, Kitab Ahadith al-Anbiya, Hadith: 3436.
