And he (i.e. Ibn `Umar) used to say, "I do only what my companions used to do and I don't forbid anybody to pray at any time during the day or night except that one should not intend to pray at sunrise or sunset."

Hadith Commentary: Quba is a well-known village located three miles from the city of Madinah. When the Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) migrated, he stayed there for a few days, and it was here that he laid the foundation of the very first mosque, which is mentioned in the Noble Qur’an. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam) loved this first mosque of his so much that he would certainly visit it once a week and would perform two units (rak‘ahs) of Tahiyyat al-Masjid (greeting the mosque) prayer there. There is immense reward for these two rak‘ahs. Nowadays, buses run continuously from the bus station adjacent to the Prophet’s Mosque (Haram Nabawi) to Quba. All praise is due to Allah, that during both journeys to Madinah Munawwarah in 1951 and then in 1962, I had the good fortune to visit Masjid Quba multiple times. The journey in 1962 was for Hajj on behalf of my most special and esteemed benefactor, the honorable Hajji Muhammad Parah of Rangoon, now residing in Karachi—may Allah prolong their honor and bless them, bless them and their family—his respected father, the late Hajji Ismail Parah (rahimahullah), for whom I performed Hajj al-Badal (substitute Hajj). May Allah the Exalted accept it and make it a means of salvation in the Hereafter for the late Ismail Parah, and grant the esteemed Hajji Muhammad Parah, his children, and all their relatives the blessings of both worlds, grant them progress, and accept my humble prayers for all of them. Ameen, thumma ameen.

Hadith Commentary:
In these hadiths, Imam Bukhari rahimahullah has mentioned the virtue of performing prayer in the Mosque of Quba.
It should be noted that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam and Abu Bakr as-Siddiq radi Allahu anhu, after migrating from Makkah al-Mukarramah, reached the outlying settlement of Yathrib called Quba, which is also referred to as ‘Aliyah’.
Quba is the name of a well, and the settlement became well-known by association with this well as Quba.
The Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stayed at the house of Kulthum bin al-Hadam, the chief of the tribe of ‘Amr bin ‘Awf, and Abu Bakr radi Allahu anhu honored Habib bin Isaf with his hospitality.
At night, gatherings would be held at the house of Sa’d bin Khaythamah.
After three days, Ali radi Allahu anhu met him (the Prophet) here.
The Prophet’s stay in Quba lasted for 14 days.
This settlement is located approximately 3 kilometers from Madinah al-Munawwarah.
Those who had migrated towards Madinah before the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam built a mosque here, which is called the Mosque of Quba.
When the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam stayed in this settlement, he continued to perform prayers in this mosque.
For detailed information regarding its expansion, the study of Atlas Seerat Nabawi (p. 151, Darussalam edition) will be beneficial.
