Explanation:
It is for this reason that I do not narrate the hadith of the Messenger (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam), lest I should inadvertently make an incorrect statement.

Hadith Commentary:
1.
The response of Hazrat Zubair radi Allahu anhu, that "I have not separated from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam," does not mean that he was never separated from the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam at all. He certainly was separated, as Hazrat Zubair radi Allahu anhu migrated to Abyssinia, and when the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam migrated to Madinah, he was not with him at that time either.
The meaning is that for most of the time, he remained with the Prophet; when companionship is lengthy, then hearing (of hadith) is also more, and greater hearing necessitates that I narrate many of your ahadith. However, I fear that I might, by mistake, attribute something to you which you did not actually say.
(Fath al-Bari: 1/265)
2.
In one narration, Hazrat Zubair radi Allahu anhu replied in these words:
"O my dear son! You know that my kinship with the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam is also very close.
The Messenger of Allah’s sallallahu alayhi wa sallam paternal aunt is my mother, his noble wife Hazrat Khadijah radi Allahu anha is my paternal aunt, your mother (Hazrat Asma radi Allahu anha)
is my wife, and her (Asma radi Allahu anha’s) sister, Hazrat Aisha radi Allahu anha, is the noble wife of the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam. But it is precisely this caution regarding the abundance of narrations that restrains me."
(Fath al-Bari: 1/265)
3.
In this narration, the condition of "deliberately" is also not mentioned, but carelessness in any case is not correct.
This means that even if an incorrect attribution occurs unintentionally, it is not free from danger.
In such circumstances, not exercising caution is to allow a non-voluntary matter to arise from a voluntary one.
On this basis, Hazrat Zubair radi Allahu anhu says that I neither narrate in abundance nor do I take such a risk.

Benefits and Issues:
Benefit: Many of the noble Companions (radi Allahu anhum ajma'in) would narrate very few hadiths out of this very concern,
that perhaps there might be some addition or omission,
and they might end up attributing a lie to the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallam).
Along with this, those who relied upon their memorization and recollection fulfilled a great responsibility in transmitting the Shari'ah.
If any error did occur somewhere,
then it has been rectified,
and such an error is forgiven for them because it was not intentional.
In this, there is a warning for the storytellers and preachers,
who, for the sake of embellishing their tales, do not refrain from narrating weak and fabricated reports.
