Mention of Khaybar
Hadith 1101
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، قَالَ : ثنا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَلَ خَيْبَرَ بِشَطْرِ مَا يَخْرُجُ مِنْهَا مِنْ تَمْرٍ أَوْ زَرْعٍ " .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made an agreement with the people of Khaybar to take half of the produce of dates and grain.
Hadith 1102
أَخْبَرَنَا الرَّبِيعُ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ وَهْبٍ ، حَدَّثَهُمْ قَالَ : أَنِي أُسَامَةُ ، عَنْ نَافِعِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : لَمَّا فُتِحَتْ خَيْبَرُ سَأَلَتْ يَهُودُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ يُقِرَّهُمْ فِيهَا عَلَى أَنْ يَعْمَلُوا عَلَى نِصْفِ مَا خَرَجَ مِنْهَا مِنَ التَّمْرِ وَالزَّرْعِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " نُقِرُّكُمْ فِيهَا عَلَى ذَلِكَ مَا شِئْنَا " وَكَانُوا فِيهَا كَذَلِكَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، وَأَبِي بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، وَطَائِفَةٍ مِنْ إِمَارَةِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، وَكَانَ التَّمْرُ يُقْسَمُ عَلَى السُّهْمَانِ مِنْ نِصْفِ خَيْبَرَ ، فَيَأْخُذُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْخُمُسَ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when Khaybar was conquered, the Jews requested the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) to allow them to stay there on the condition that they would work in exchange for half of the produce, that is, dates and grain. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: We will allow you to stay here on this condition as long as we wish. Thus, during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and for some time during the caliphates of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), they continued to work there on this condition. The dates obtained from half the produce of Khaybar would be divided into several portions, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would take the khums (one-fifth).
