Sayyiduna Sa'id bin 'As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) appointed Sayyiduna Aban bin Sa'id bin 'As (may Allah be pleased with him) as the commander of an army and sent him from Madinah towards Najd. Aban and his companions came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) after the conquest of Khaybar. The reins of their horses were made of palm fiber. Sayyiduna Aban (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Distribute our share as well. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I said: O Messenger of Allah! Do not allocate their share. Sayyiduna Aban (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Wabr! (a small animal, smaller than a cat), you say this, even though you have just come down to us from the peak of Dhan (a mountain). So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Aban, sit down. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not allocate any share for them. It is also narrated that he gave a share from Khaybar (spoils) to Sayyiduna Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions.

Sayyiduna Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Khaybar was conquered, we met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he allotted us a share. Or he narrated that he gave us from it. Those who did not participate in the conquest of Khaybar, he did not give any share to any of them, except the participants of the battle and the companions of our boat, that is, Ja'far (may Allah be pleased with him) and his companions (who did not participate in the battle), he gave them a share.
