Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about hunting with a mi‘rad (a stick or arrow with a broad head), so he (peace be upon him) said: If it strikes with its sharp edge, then eat (the game), but if it strikes with its broad side, then it is mauqūdh (killed by a blow), so do not eat it. He says: I asked him (peace be upon him) about hunting with a dog, so he (peace be upon him) said: Eat whatever it catches for you, for the catching of the dog is like slaughtering. If there are other dogs with your dog, and you fear that they (the other dogs) have also caught and killed the game along with your dog, then do not eat it, because you pronounced the name of Allah when sending your dog, but not on the others.
Hadith 915
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I said to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! We release trained dogs, which kill (the game), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If they kill the game, then eat (of it), but if they start eating it themselves or another dog joins them, then do not eat (of it).

Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I presented myself before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We live in the land of the People of the Book, so we eat and drink from their utensils, and our area is a hunting region, so I shoot arrows with a bow and hunt with my trained and untrained dogs. (So what is permissible in this regard?) The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If you live in the land of the People of the Book, as you have mentioned, then do not eat from their utensils unless there is no other option. If there is no other option, then wash them and eat from them. And if you live in a hunting region, as you have mentioned, then whatever game you hunt with your arrow, mention the name of Allah and eat it. And whatever game you hunt with your trained dog, mention the name of Allah and eat it. And whatever game you hunt with your untrained dog, and you get the chance to slaughter it, then eat it as well.
Hadith 917
Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he only mentioned the incident regarding the dog. Also, at the end of the incident about the untrained dog, he said: “Do not eat that which you do not get the chance to slaughter.”
Hadith 918
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about the mi‘rad (an arrow without a sharp head), so he (peace be upon him) said: If it pierces (the game), then eat (of it), and if it strikes with its broad side (and does not pierce), then do not eat (of it).

Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I said: O Messenger of Allah! I shoot an arrow at game, then after a night I find it, and my arrow is still in it (so what should I do)? He said: If you find the game and your arrow is still in it, and no predatory animal has eaten from it, then you may eat it. Shu’bah says: I narrated this hadith before Abu Bishr, so he narrated to me from ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If you find your arrow in it and do not find any other mark besides it, and you are certain that it died from that arrow, then you may eat it.
Hadith 920
Sayyiduna ‘Adi bin Hatim (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: If your game (which has been struck by an arrow) falls into water and drowns, then do not eat it. (It is possible that it died due to drowning in the water.)
