Habibah bint Sahal Ansariyah narrates that she was married to Thabit bin Qais bin Shamas (may Allah be pleased with him). (One day) the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came out in the darkness for the Fajr prayer and found Habibah bint Sahal at his door. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Who is it? She said: I am Habibah bint Sahal. He asked: What is the matter? (She said: It is impossible for me to live with Thabit bin Qais.) When Thabit bin Qais came, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: This is Habibah bint Sahal, and she has stated what Allah willed. Habibah said: O Messenger of Allah! What he gave me is still with me. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Thabit: Take it from her. So he took it, and she went and sat in her house.
Hadith 750
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the wife of Thabit bin Qais (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: I do not find any fault with Thabit regarding his religion or character, but I fear falling into disbelief in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) asked: Will you return his garden to him? She said: Yes! So the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) ordered her: Return his garden to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) separated them. Abu Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This narration is also reported from Ibrahim bin Tahman, but in its end, there is no mention of separation.

Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The best charity is that which is given after fulfilling one’s own needs, and begin with those whose expenses are your responsibility. Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Your wife says, “Give me maintenance or divorce me,” your son says, “To whom are you handing me over? Spend on me,” and your slave says, “Give me maintenance or sell me.”
