Abu Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that he heard from Abdur Rahman bin Ayman, the freed slave of Urwah, while he was asking Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), and Abu Zubair (may Allah have mercy on him) was listening. He asked: What is your opinion about a man who divorces his wife while she is menstruating? He (Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar, may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Abdullah bin Umar divorced his wife during her menstruation in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Abdullah bin Umar has divorced his wife while she is menstruating. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: He should take her back. You returned the wife to me and said: When she becomes pure, then either divorce her or keep her. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse: ﴿يَاأَيُّهَاالنَّبِيُّإِذَاطَلَّقْتُمُالنِّسَاءَفَطَلِّقُوهُنَّ﴾ (O Prophet! When you divorce women, divorce them at the beginning of their prescribed period [purity]).

Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I divorced my wife during her menstruation in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Command him to take her back until she becomes pure, then she experiences menstruation again, and when she becomes pure, if he wishes, he may keep her, and if he wishes, he may divorce her before having intercourse with her. This is the waiting period about which Allah Almighty has commanded that women should be divorced in it.

Say to your wives: If you desire the life of this world and its adornment, then come, I will provide for you and release you with a gracious release. But if you desire Allah and His Messenger and the home of the Hereafter, then indeed Allah has prepared for the doers of good among you a great reward.” (, ) I said: About what should I consult my parents?
