Abu Ubaid says that I offered the Eid prayer with Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), so he performed the prayer before the sermon and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has declared fasting on these two days (Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha) to be forbidden. In one narration of Sufyan, it is stated: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fasting on these two days, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. As for the day of Eid al-Fitr, it is the day of breaking the fast after Ramadan, and on the day of Eid al-Adha, you eat from your sacrifices.
Hadith 393
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When night comes, the day departs, and the sun sets, then the time for breaking the fast has arrived.
Hadith 394
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade continuous fasting (joining one fast to another without breaking the fast at sunset). Someone asked: O Messenger of Allah! But you observe continuous fasting? He replied: I am not like you; I am given food and drink at night.
Hadith 395
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When you see the moon, then fast, and when you see the moon, then break the fast. If the sky is cloudy, then complete thirty days of fasting.

It is narrated from a companion of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) that the people (companions) observed the thirtieth fast. Two Bedouins came and testified that they had seen the moon the previous day. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered the people, so they broke their fast.
Hadith 397
Sayyida Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that Hamza Aslami (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about fasting while traveling. He said: It is up to you; if you wish, you may fast, and if you wish, you may leave it.
Hadith 398
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) fasted during the year of the conquest of Makkah (while traveling), and when he reached a place called Kadid, he broke his fast. And the last action of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) is what is taken as proof. Abu Muhammad says: Mu’ammar has clarified that “Indeed, what is taken is the last (action)” is the statement of Zuhri.
Hadith 399
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was on a journey, and he saw a man around whom many people had gathered and shade was being provided for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked about the reason for this. The people replied: He is fasting. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: It is not an act of righteousness to fast while traveling.
Hadith 400
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that we (the wives of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him) would miss the fasts of Ramadan due to illness, and could not make them up until the month of Sha’ban arrived. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not fast in any month as much as he did in Sha’ban; leaving only a few days, he would fast almost the entire month of Sha’ban, rather, he would fast the whole of Sha’ban.
Hadith 392
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that if the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would enter the morning in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah), he would perform ghusl and then observe the fast.

Lady Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, narrates that during the month of Ramadan, one night the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, prayed in the mosque, and people also prayed with him. Then on the second night, he prayed, and that night even more people gathered than the first night. On the third or fourth night, the mosque was filled to capacity with people, but the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did not come out to them. The people kept calling him for prayer, but he did not come out to them. In the morning, Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, said: O Messenger of Allah! Last night the people kept waiting for you (but you did not come out). He replied: Their situation was not hidden from me, but I feared that this prayer might be made obligatory upon them.

Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that we fasted the month of Ramadan with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he did not lead us in (Taraweeh) prayer during this month until seven nights remained. Then he led us in prayer for one third of the night. Then on the fourth (twenty-fourth) night, he did not lead us in prayer. On the next night, he led us in prayer until nearly half the night had passed. We said: O Messenger of Allah! If only you would lead us in prayer for the whole night. He said: When a person prays with the Imam until the Imam finishes, it is written for him as if he spent the whole night in prayer. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not lead us in prayer on the sixth (twenty-sixth) night, but on the seventh (twenty-seventh) night, he led us in prayer, sent word to his family, and the people gathered as well. He led us in such a long prayer that we feared missing out on falah. (Dawud bin Abi Hind says) I asked (my teacher): What is falah? He replied: It means the pre-dawn meal (suhoor).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven; and whoever stands (in prayer) during the Night of Qadr with faith and seeking reward, his previous sins will be forgiven.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Seek Laylat al-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten nights of Ramadan.
Hadith 406
Sayyiduna Zirr bin Hubaish (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that if there were not people of little understanding among you, I would have placed my hands on my ears and proclaimed loudly that Laylat al-Qadr is in the last seven nights of Ramadan; three nights before it and three nights after it. This information was given to me by a truthful man, that is, Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 407
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) always performed i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan until Allah took him to Himself.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to perform i'tikaf, he would enter the place of i'tikaf after offering the Fajr prayer. On one occasion, he intended to perform i'tikaf during the last ten days of Ramadan, so he ordered a tent to be set up, and it was set up. Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) also ordered a tent to be set up for her, and it was set up. Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her) ordered a tent to be set up for her, and it was set up. Lady Zainab (may Allah be pleased with her) saw the tents of both of them, so she ordered a tent to be set up for her as well, and it was set up. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw this situation, he said: "Are you considering this as righteousness?" Thus, instead of Ramadan, he performed i'tikaf for ten days in Shawwal.

Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that while in the state of i'tikaf, she would pass by the house of a sick person and, while walking, would inquire about their condition. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), while in the state of i'tikaf, would extend his head out from the mosque towards me, and I would comb his hair. Also, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would come home only to perform ablution while in the state of i'tikaf.
Hadith 383
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Eat suhoor, for there is blessing in suhoor.
Hadith 375
Muhammad bin Haneen says that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) disliked that anyone should fast before the new moon of Ramadan was sighted. He said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If the moon is not sighted, then complete thirty nights.
Hadith 376
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), or Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him), said (Shu’bah was in doubt): Fast upon sighting the moon and break the fast upon sighting the moon. Abdullah bin Abi Qais says that I was sent to Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) so that I could ask her about fasting in case the crescent of Ramadan is hidden, about voluntary prayers after Asr, and about continuous fasting (wisal). I presented myself before her and said: So-and-so sends you greetings and has sent me to ask you about voluntary prayers after Asr, about continuous fasting, and about the fasts of Ramadan. She narrated part of the hadith and said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to be more cautious regarding the days of Sha'ban than other months, then upon sighting the crescent of Ramadan, he would fast. If the crescent was not sighted, he would complete thirty days of Sha'ban, then fast.
Hadith 378
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Listen! Do not fast one or two days before Ramadan, except for the person who habitually fasts; he may fast on that day.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) narrates that elderly men and elderly women, who had the ability to fast, were permitted that if they wished, they could refrain from fasting and feed a poor person for each day, and making up the fast was not obligatory upon them. Then this ruling was abrogated by the verse: “So whoever among you witnesses the month, let him fast it” (Al-Baqarah: 185). Now this permission is only for those elderly men and women who do not have the ability to fast, and for pregnant and breastfeeding women, if they fear for their child, then they may refrain from fasting and feed a poor person for each day.

The true Fajr is not the one that appears vertically, but rather the one that spreads horizontally (right and left)."

Abu Jamrah says that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) used to make me sit on his cot. He said: When the delegation of the tribe of Abdul Qais came to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he asked: Who are these people or which delegation is this? They said: We are the people of Rabi’ah. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Welcome to the delegation or the people, neither disgraced nor regretful. They said: O Messenger of Allah! We cannot come to you except in the sacred months because between us and you is the tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar. Tell us something definite which we can convey to those behind us and by acting upon it, enter Paradise. They also asked about drinks. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded them four things and forbade them from four things. He commanded them to have faith in Allah and asked: Do you know what it means to have faith in Allah? They said: Allah and His Messenger know best. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: To testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to pay zakat, to fast in Ramadan, and to give one-fifth (khums) from the spoils of war. And he forbade them from using green glazed jars, gourds, hollow wooden vessels, and oil-coated containers, and said: Remember these things and convey them to those behind you.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: I am ruined. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: What happened? He said: I had intercourse with my wife during Ramadan (while fasting). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Can you free a slave? He said: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Can you fast for two consecutive months? He said: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Can you feed sixty needy people? He said: No. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sit down. Then a large basket full of dates was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take it and give it as charity. He said: Should I give it in charity to a household poorer than us? There is no household between the two black mountains of Madinah poorer than us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed so much that his molar teeth became visible and said: Take it and feed it to your family.
Hadith 385
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever vomits unintentionally while fasting, there is no making up (qada) required for him, but whoever vomits deliberately, he must make up (qada) for it.
Hadith 386
Sayyiduna Thawban (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that during Ramadan, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was passing by Baqi‘ when a man was having cupping done. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: The one performing cupping and the one having it done—both their fasts are broken.
Hadith 387
Abu Rafi’ says that I went to Sayyiduna Abu Musa Ash’ari (may Allah be pleased with him), and he was having cupping done at night. I said: Why did you not have it done during the day? He replied: Are you telling me to let my blood flow while I am fasting, even though I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say that the one who performs cupping and the one who has it done, both their fasts are broken.
Hadith 388
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had cupping done at a place called Qah while he was fasting. Abu Muhammad says: You (peace and blessings be upon him) were on a journey.
Hadith 389
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever eats or drinks forgetfully should complete his fast, for it is Allah who has fed him and given him drink.
Hadith 390
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When anyone observes a fast and forgetfully eats or drinks, he should complete his fast, for it is Allah who has fed him and given him drink.
Hadith 391
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would kiss (one of his pure wives) while fasting and would also embrace with body touching body, even though he (peace and blessings be upon him) had more control over his desires than you.
