Prayer of the traveler
Hadith 224
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ الْأَشَجُّ، قَالَ: ثَنِي عُقْبَةُ قَالَ: ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: «خَرَجْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى الْحَجِّ فَكَانَ يُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ حَتَّى رَجَعَ إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ» ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: كَمْ مَكَثْتُمْ بِمَكَّةَ؟ قَالَ: عَشَرَةَ أَيَّامٍ
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I set out for Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he continued to perform the prayer as two rak‘ahs until he returned to Madinah. Yahya says: I asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), “How many days did you stay in Makkah?” He replied, “Ten days.”
Hadith 225
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُقْرِئِ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ، قَالَا: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ حُمَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ، سَمِعَ عُمَرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، يَسْأَلُ جُلَسَاءَهُ: أَيُّ شَيْءٍ سَمِعْتُمْ فِي الْمَقَامِ، بِمَكَّةَ قَالَ السَّائِبُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ، أَخْبَرَنِي الْعَلَاءُ بْنُ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّ مُكْثَ الْمُهَاجِرِ بِمَكَّةَ بَعْدَ قَضَاءِ نُسُكِهِ ثَلَاثٌ»
Sayyiduna Alaa bin Hadrami (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: After completing Hajj, a Muhajir can stay in Makkah for three days.
Hadith 226
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ سَالِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا جَدَّ بِهِ السَّيْرُ جَمَعَ بَيْنَ الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) needed to set out early for a journey, he would combine Maghrib and Isha prayers.
Hadith 227
حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ بَكْرٍ، عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ، قَالَ: ثَنِي يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، قَالَ: ثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ثَوْبَانَ قَالَ: ثَنَا جَابِرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي التَّطَوُّعَ عَلَى ظَهْرِ رَاحِلَتِهِ حَيْثُ تَوَجَّهَتْ بِهِ فَإِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ الْمَكْتُوبَةَ نَزَلَ فَاسْتَقْبَلَ الْقِبْلَةَ
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to offer voluntary prayers on his mount, facing whichever direction it was facing. But when he intended to perform an obligatory prayer, he would dismount and face the Qiblah.
Hadith 228
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ، قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا يَقُولُ: رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُصَلِّي وَهُوَ عَلَى رَاحِلَتِهِ النَّوَافِلَ فِي كُلِّ جِهَةٍ، وَلَكِنْ يَخْفِضُ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ مِنَ الرَّكْعَةِ يُومِئُ إِيمَاءً
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with both of them) narrates that I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performing voluntary prayers on his mount facing every direction. He was praying by gesturing, and in prostration, he would lower his head more than in bowing.
