Purity of water and amount that becomes impure
Hadith 53
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ أَبِي التَّيَّاحِ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِي الْإِنَاءِ فَاغْسِلُوهُ سَبْعَ مِرَارٍ، وَالثَّامِنَةَ عَفِّرُوهُ بِالتُّرَابِ».
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a dog drinks from a vessel by putting its mouth into it, wash it seven times and scrub it with earth the eighth time.
Hadith 62
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو يَحْيَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْعَطَّارُ قَالَ: ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبُو رَيْحَانَةَ، عَنْ سَفِينَةَ، صَاحِبِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ» يَغْتَسِلُ بِالصَّاعِ وَيَتَوَضَّأُ بِالْمُدِّ ".
The companion of the Messenger of Allah, Sayyiduna Safinah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl with one sa’ of water and used to perform wudu with one mudd of water.
Hadith 61
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ شَيْبَانَ الرَّمْلِيُّ، قَالَا: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ، عَنِ ابْنِ وَعْلَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا يَرْفَعُهُ وقَالَ ابْنُ الْمُقْرِئِ: قَالَ مَرَّةً: إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «أَيُّمَا إِهَابٍ دُبِغَ فَقَدْ طَهُرَ» وَقَالَ ابْنُ شَيْبَانَ: قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports in a marfu’ narration that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Tanning purifies the hide. Ibn Shayban narrated with the words «قَالَ النَّبِيُّ» and Ibn al-Muqri’ with the words «أَنَّ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ».
Hadith 60
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: قَرَأْتُ عَلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ نَافِعٍ: وَحَدَّثَنِي مُطَرِّفُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، عَنْ حُمَيْدَةَ بِنْتِ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ، عَنْ كَبْشَةَ بِنْتِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَكَانَتْ تَحْتَ ابْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ دَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا فَسَكَبَتْ لَهُ وُضُوءًا فَجَاءَتْ هِرَّةٌ تَشْرَبُ مِنْهُ فَأَصْغَى لَهَا الْإِنَاءَ حَتَّى شَرِبَتْ قَالَتْ كَبْشَةُ: فَرَآنِي أَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ: أَتَعْجَبِينَ يَا ابْنَةَ أَخِي؟ قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ: نَعَمْ فَقَالَ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِنَّهَا لَيْسَتْ بِنَجِسٍ إِنَّهَا مِنَ الطَّوَّافِينَ عَلَيْكُمْ أَوْ الطَّوَّافَاتِ».
Sayyidah Kabshah bint Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with her), the daughter of Ka'b bin Malik and the daughter-in-law of Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to her, so she poured water for him for ablution. A cat came and began to drink. She tilted the vessel towards it until it drank to its fill. Kabshah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: He saw me watching him and said: O niece! Are you surprised? I said: Yes! He said: Indeed, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: This (cat) is not impure, for it is among those (creatures) that move around among you (men and women).
Hadith 59
أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: أَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، قَالَ: أَنَا حُمَيْدٌ، عَنْ أَنَسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ رَأَى نُخَامَةً فِي قِبْلَةِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَحَكَّهَا بِيَدِهِ فَرُئِيَ فِي وَجْهِهِ شِدَّةُ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ: " إِنَّ الْعَبْدَ إِذَا قَامَ يُصَلِّي فَإِنَّمَا يُنَاجِي رَبَّهُ أَوْ رَبُّهُ فِيمَا بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْقِبْلَةِ، فَإِذَا بَزَقَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَبْزُقْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ أَوْ تَحْتَ قَدَمِهِ أَوْ يَقُولُ: هَكَذَا وَبَزَقَ فِي ثَوْبِهِ وَدَلَكَ بَعْضَهُ بِبَعْضٍ ".
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw phlegm on the Qiblah wall of the mosque, so he scraped it off with his hand. Due to this, signs of intense anger were seen on his face. He said: When a servant stands for prayer, he whispers to his Lord, or he said: The Lord Almighty is between him and the Qiblah, therefore, when someone needs to spit, he should spit to his left or under his foot, or do like this—and he spat on his garment and rubbed it together.
Hadith 58
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: «كَانَ الرِّجَالُ وَالنِّسَاءُ يَتَوَضَّئُونَ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ».
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), men and women used to perform ablution from the same vessel.
Hadith 57
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُقْرِئِ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ، قَالَا: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: «كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَغْتَسِلُ بِالْقَدَحِ وَكُنْتُ أَغْتَسِلُ أَنَا وَهُوَ مِنْ إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ» زَادُ مَحْمُودٌ: وَهُوَ الْفَرَقُ.
Sayyidah Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl (ritual bath) with a bowl (of water), and I and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ghusl from the same vessel. In Mahmood’s narration, there is an addition that the bowl was equal to one faraq (three sa’).
Hadith 56
أَخْبَرَنَا بَحْرُ بْنُ نَصْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ وَهْبٍ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْحَارِثِ، عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ أَبَا السَّائِبِ، حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا يَغْتَسِلْ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْمَاءِ الدَّائِمِ وَهُوَ جُنُبٌ» فَقَالَ: كَيْفَ يَفْعَلُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ؟ قَالَ: يَتَنَاوَلَهُ تَنَاوُلًا.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should perform ghusl of janabah in standing water." Abu Sa’ib (may Allah have mercy on him) asked: "Abu Hurairah! Then how should he perform ghusl?" He replied: "He should take water with his hands and bathe."
Hadith 55
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَعَلَّانُ بْنُ الْمُغِيرَةِ، قَالَا: ثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي مَرْيَمَ مُحَمَّدٌ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَفْصَةَ، وَسُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ قَالَا: ثَنَا عُتْبَةُ هُوَ ابْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ حُنَيْنٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا وَقَعَ الذُّبَابُ فِي شَرَابِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَغْمِسْهُ كُلَّهُ ثُمَّ يَطْرَحْهُ فَإِنَّ فِي أَحَدِ جَنَاحَيْهِ سُمًّا وَفِي الْآخَرِ شِفَاءً».
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a fly falls into someone's drink, he should fully immerse it in it, then take it out and throw it away, because in one of its wings there is poison (disease) and in the other there is cure.
Hadith 54
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَنَا مَعْمَرٌ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ وَعَنْ هَمَّامِ بْنِ مُنَبِّهٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لَا يَبُولَنَّ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي الْمَاءِ الدَّائِمِ الَّذِي لَا يَجْرِي ثُمَّ يَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْهُ».
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "None of you should urinate in standing water and then perform ablution with it."
Hadith 43
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ سُلَيْمٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ، أَنَّ الْمُغِيرَةِ بْنَ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يَقُولُ: سَأَلَ رَجُلٌ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا نَرْكَبُ الْبَحْرَ فَنَحْمِلُ مَعَنَا الْقَلِيلَ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَإِنْ تَوَضَّأَنَا بِهِ عَطِشْنَا أَفَنَتَوَضَّأُ بِمَاءِ الْبَحْرِ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «هُوَ الطَّهُورُ مَاؤُهُ الْحَلَالُ مَيْتَتُهُ».
Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that a man asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): O Messenger of Allah! When we travel by sea, we take only a little water with us. If we use it for ablution, we remain thirsty. Can we perform ablution with sea water? He replied: Its water is pure and its dead (animals) are lawful.
Hadith 52
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِي إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَغْسِلْهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ» وَقَالَ أَيُّوبُ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «أَوَّلَهُنَّ أَوْ إِحْدَاهُنَّ بِالتُّرَابِ».
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a dog drinks from any of your vessels by putting its mouth into it, then wash it seven times. Ayyub narrated from Ibn Sirin, from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), these words as well: that the first time, or one time, wash it with earth.
Hadith 51
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الْخَلِيلِ، قَالَ: أَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُسْهِرٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ، عَنْ أَبِي رَزِينٍ، وَأَبِي صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا وَلَغَ الْكَلْبُ فِي إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَهْرِقْهُ وَلْيَغْسِلْهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ».
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When a dog puts its mouth into any of your vessels, then throw out (whatever is in) the vessel and wash the vessel seven times.
Hadith 50
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَبُو جَعْفَرٍ الدَّارِمِيُّ قَالَا: ثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا مَالِكٌ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا شَرِبَ الْكَلْبُ فِي إِنَاءِ أَحَدِكُمْ فَلْيَغْسِلْهُ سَبْعَ مَرَّاتٍ».
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) reports that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: If a dog drinks from any of your vessels, then wash it seven times.
Hadith 49
حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: أَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ نَحْوَهُ.
This narration is also reported through this chain.
Hadith 48
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، وَابْنُ عَوْنٍ قَالُوا: ثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُوسَى، قَالَ: أَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: انْتَهَى النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَى بَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِهِ وَقَدْ فَضُلَ مِنْ غَسْلِهَا أَوْ مِنْ وَضُوئِهَا فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَتَوَضَّأَ بِهِ فَقَالَتْ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي اغْتَسَلْتُ مِنْهُ مِنْ جَنَابَةٍ فَقَالَ: «إِنَّ الْمَاءَ لَا يَنْجُسُ».
Narrated Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) went to one of his wives, and there was some leftover water from her ablution or bath. The Prophet (peace be upon him) began to perform ablution with it. She said: O Messenger of Allah! I have performed ghusl (ritual bath) of janabah with it. He replied: Water does not become impure.
Hadith 47
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْوَرَّاقُ، وَمُوسَى بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمَسْرُوقِيُّ، قَالَا: ثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ الْمَسْرُوقِيُّ: ابْنِ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ بِئْرِ بُضَاعَةَ؟ وَهِيَ بِئْرٌ يُطْرَحُ فِيهَا النَّتِنُ وَالْحِيَضُ وَلُحُومُ الْكِلَابِ فَقَالَ: «الْمَاءُ طَهُورٌ لَا يُنَجِّسُهُ شَيْءٌ».
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that someone asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): Can we perform ablution from the well named Budha'ah, while filth, menstrual cloths, and the flesh of dogs are thrown into it? He replied: Water is pure; nothing can make it impure.
Hadith 46
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا عَفَّانُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، قَالَ: أَخْبَرَنِي عَاصِمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ، قَالَ: كُنَّا فِي بُسْتَانٍ لَنَا أَوْ لِعُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ فَحَضَرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ إِلَى مَقَرِّي الْبُسْتَانِ وَفِيهِ جِلْدُ بَعِيرٍ فَأَخَذَ يَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْهُ فَقُلْنَا: أَتَتَوَضَّأُ مِنْ هَذَا وَفِيهِ هَذَا الْجِلْدُ؟ فَقَالَ: ثَنِي أَبِي، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «إِذَا كَانَ الْمَاءُ قُلَّتَيْنِ فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَنْجُسُ».
Asim bin Mundhir (may Allah have mercy on him) says that we were in our or Ubaidullah bin Abdullah bin Umar's (may Allah have mercy on him) garden when the time for prayer came. Ubaidullah got up and went to the pond in his garden and began to perform ablution, while there was a camel's skin lying in it. We said: You are performing ablution with this water, while this skin is lying in it. He said: My father told me that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: If the water is two pitchers (or more), it does not become impure.
Hadith 45
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ شَاكِرٍ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، ح وَثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الْقِيرَاطِيُّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، قَالَ: سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَحْوَهُ، وَقَالَ عِيسَى بْنُ يُونُسَ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ وَقَالَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ أَيْضًا.
The same narration from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) is also reported through another chain of transmission.
Hadith 44
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ الْوَرَّاقُ، وَحَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ الْوَازِيُّ، وَأَبُو يَحْيَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ الْقَطَّانُ قَالُوا: ثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبَّادِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: سُئِلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَنِ الْمَاءِ وَمَا يَنُوبُهُ مِنَ السِّبَاعِ وَالدَّوَابِّ فَقَالَ: «إِذَا كَانَ الْمَاءُ قُلَّتَيْنِ لَمْ يَحْمِلِ الْخَبَثَ».
Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was asked about water and the beasts that come to it (to drink). He said: If the water is more than two pitchers, it does not become impure.
