Wudu for Sleep
Hadith 9
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ الْمُقْرِئِ، وَعَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ، وَمَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ، قَالُوا: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ مِنْ نَوْمِهِ فَلَا يَغْمِسْ يَدَهُ فِي وَضُوئِهِ حَتَّى يَغْسِلَهَا ثَلَاثًا فَإِنَّهُ لَا يَدْرِي أَيْنَ بَاتَتْ يَدُهُ» قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُقْرِئِ مَرَّةً: حَيْثُ بَاتَتْ يَدُهُ وَالْحَدِيثُ لِابْنِ الْمُقْرِئِ
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: When any one of you wakes up from sleep, he should not put his hand into (the ablution) water until he has washed it three times, for he does not know where his hand spent the night.

Hadith 10
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ، قَالَ: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عُمَرَ، وَسَمِعَ كُرَيْبًا، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: " بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ فَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَامَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ إِلَى سِقَاءٍ فَأَخَذَ مِنْهُ مَاءً فَتَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءًا خَفِيفًا يُقَلِّلُهُ وَيُخَفِّفُهُ قَالَ: فَصَنَعْتُ مِثْلَ الَّذِي صَنَعَ فَقُمْتُ عَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَحَوَّلَنِي عَنْ يَمِينِهِ ثُمَّ صَلَّى مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ أَنْ يُصَلِّيَ ثُمَّ نَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ ثُمَّ أَتَاهُ الْمُنَادِي فَقَامَ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ ".
Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that one night I stayed with my maternal aunt, Lady Maymunah (may Allah be pleased with her). I saw that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) got up at night and performed a light ablution from a water-skin. He described the ablution of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as very light and brief. Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I also performed ablution in the same way and stood on his left side. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned me and made me stand on his right side. Then, as much as Allah willed, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, then slept until he began to snore. Then the caller to prayer came to him, so he stood up for prayer without performing ablution again.
Hadith 11
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُوسُفَ، قَالَا: ثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ، قَالَ: ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ سَلَمَةَ بْنِ كُهَيْلٍ، عَنْ كُرَيْبٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: " بِتُّ عِنْدَ خَالَتِي مَيْمُونَةَ بِنْتِ الْحَارِثِ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ يُصَلِّي ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ فَنَامَ حَتَّى نَفَخَ قَالَ: ثُمَّ جَاءَهُ بِلَالٌ فَآذَنَهُ بِالصَّلَاةِ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى وَلَمْ يَتَوَضَّأْ ".
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that one night I stayed with my maternal aunt, Sayyida Maymunah bint al-Harith (may Allah be pleased with her). (I saw that) the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up at night and performed prayer, then lay down and slept until he began to snore. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Then Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) came and informed him about the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up and performed the prayer, but did not perform ablution.
Hadith 12
حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الدَّوْرَقِيُّ، قَالَ: ثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَجْلَانَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبِي يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «تَنَامُ عَيْنِي وَلَا يَنَامُ قَلْبِي».
Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: My eyes sleep but my heart does not sleep.
