Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) sent Abu Juham bin Hudhaifah to collect charity, and a man argued with him about his charity. Abu Juham struck him and broke his head. His family came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! We want retribution (qisas). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Take this much wealth (and forgo retribution). They were not satisfied. He said: Take this much wealth, but they were not satisfied. He said: Take even more wealth, and then they agreed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will address the people and inform them about your agreement. They said: Fine. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a sermon and said: These people from the tribe of Lays came to me seeking retribution, so I offered them this much wealth and they agreed. Are you satisfied? They said: No! The Muhajireen intended to punish them, but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Refrain. So they refrained. He called them again, offered them more, and said: Are you pleased? They said: Yes! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I will address the people and inform them about your agreement. They said: Fine. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave a sermon and asked: Are you pleased? They said: Yes!
