Hadith 844
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : ثنا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ ، قَالَ : أنا الْجُرَيْرِيُّ ، عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي فِرَاسٍ ، قَالَ : خَطَبَنَا عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : أَلا إِنِّي لَمْ أَبْعَثْ عُمَّالِي عَلَيْكُمْ لِيَضْرِبُوا أَبْشَارَكُمْ ، وَلا لِيَأْخُذُوا مِنْ أَمْوَالِكُمْ ، وَلَكِنِّي إِنَّمَا أَبْعَثُهُمْ لِيُعَلِّمُوكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَسُنَّتَكُمْ ، فَمَنْ فَعَلَ بِهِ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ فَلْيَرْفَعْهُ إِلَيَّ , فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسُ عُمَرَ بِيَدِهِ لأَقُصَّنَّهُ مِنْهُ ، فَقَامَ عَمْرُو بْنُ الْعَاصِ ، فَقَالَ : يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، إِنْ كَانَ رَجُلٌ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ عَلَى رَعِيَّةٍ فَأَدَّبَ بَعْضَ رَعِيَّتِهِ لَتَقُصَّنَّهُ مِنْهُ ، قَالَ عُمَرُ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ : أَنَّا لأَقُصَّنَّهُ ، وَقَدْ رَأَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُصُّ عَنْ نَفْسِهِ ، وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ عُمَرَ بِيَدِهِ لأَقُصَّنَّهُ مِنْهُ " .
Abu Firas says that Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) addressed us in a sermon and said: I do not send the workers (those who collect zakat) so that they may beat you, nor so that they may seize your wealth. Rather, I send them so that they may teach you your religion and your way. If anyone is treated otherwise, let him inform me. By the One in Whose hand is the life of Umar! I will surely take retribution for it. Sayyiduna Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Commander of the Believers! If a Muslim man is a ruler over the people and he disciplines someone from his subjects, will you also take retribution from him? Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will also take retribution from him. I have seen the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), he took retribution for himself. By the One in Whose hand is the life of Umar! I will surely take retribution for it.
