Hadith 765
ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ هَاشِمٍ ، قَالَ : ثنا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، قَالَ : ثنا حُمَيْدُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ زَيْنَبَ بِنْتِ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أُمِّ حَبِيبَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا مَاتَ نَسِيبٌ لَهَا ، أَوْ قَرِيبٌ لَهَا ، فَدَعَتْ بِصُفْرَةٍ ، فَمَسَحَتْ ذِرَاعَيْهَا ، وَقَالَتْ : سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، أَوْ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا يَحِلُّ لامْرَأَةٍ تُؤْمِنُ بِاللَّهِ وَالْيَوْمِ الآخِرِ أَنْ تُحِدَّ عَلَى مَيِّتٍ فَوْقَ ثَلاثٍ إِلا عَلَى زَوْجٍ ، فَإِنَّهَا تُحِدُّ عَلَيْهِ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا " .
A relative or close kin of Sayyida Umm Habibah (may Allah be pleased with her) passed away, so after three days she sent for yellow color and applied it to her cheeks and said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for any deceased person for more than three days, except for her husband, for whom she will mourn for four months and ten days.
