Hadith 715
حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ آدَمَ ، قَالَ : ثنا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ : ثنا حُمَيْدٌ الطَّوِيلُ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَنَسَ بْنَ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، يَقُولُ : تَزَوَّجَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ عَوْفٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ امْرَأَةً مِنَ الأَنْصَارِ ، فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " كَمْ أَصْدَقْتَهَا ؟ قَالَ : نَوَاةٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ " ، قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ : النَّوَاةُ : خَمْسَةُ دَرَاهِمَ ، وَالنَّشُّ : عِشْرُونَ دِرْهَمًا ، وَالأُوقِيَّةُ : أَرْبَعُونَ دِرْهَمًا .
Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) married an Ansari woman, so the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked him: How much did you give her as mahr (dowry)? He replied: I gave her gold equal to the weight of a date stone. Ibn Abi Najih says: "Nawah" refers to five dirhams, "Nash" to twenty dirhams, and "Uqiyyah" to forty dirhams.
