Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Rifaa’ah bin Samwal (may Allah be pleased with him) divorced his wife Tamimah bint Wahb during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Abdur Rahman bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) then married her. There was criticism from the woman’s side against Abdur Rahman bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), so he was unable to have intercourse with her and divorced her without touching her. Tamimah’s first husband, Rifaa’ah, then expressed the desire to remarry her. This matter was mentioned before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade Rifaa’ah from marrying her and said: She is not lawful for you until she tastes the sweetness of intercourse.
