Hadith 674
حَدَّثَنَا الرَّبِيعُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ ، قَالَ : ثنا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ وَهْبٍ ، قَالَ : أَخْبَرَنِي يُونُسُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ الْمُسَيَّبِ ، حَدَّثَهُ ، عَنْ سَعْدِ بْنِ أَبِي وَقَّاصٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ : " أَرَادَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ أَنْ يَتَبَتَّلَ فَنَهَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ سَعْدٌ : فَلَوْ أَجَازَ ذَلِكَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ اخْتَصَيْنَا " .
Sayyiduna Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that Sayyiduna ‘Uthman bin Maz’un (may Allah be pleased with him) wanted to practice celibacy, but the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade him from doing so. Sayyiduna Sa’d narrates: If the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had permitted it, we would have become eunuchs.
