Hadith 671
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : ثنا سَعِيدُ بْنُ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، عَنْ خَالِدٍ الْحَذَّاءِ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ ، عَنْ مُطَرِّفٍ ، عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " مَنِ الْتَقَطَ لُقَطَةً فَلْيُشْهِدْ ذَا عَدْلٍ أَوْ ذَوِي عَدْلٍ ، وَلا يَكْتُمْ وَلا يُغَيِّبْ ، فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَهُوَ أَحَقُّ بِهَا ، وَإِلا فَهُوَ مَالُ اللَّهِ يُؤْتِيهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ " .
Sayyiduna Iyad bin Himar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever finds a lost item, let him make one or two just men witnesses over it, and he should not hide it nor conceal it. If its owner comes, then he has more right to it; otherwise, it is Allah’s property, and Allah gives it to whomever He wills.”
