Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that I used to sell camels in Baqi’. I would fix the price in dinars and receive payment in dirhams, and likewise, I would fix the price in dirhams and receive payment in dinars. I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was in the house of Lady Hafsa (may Allah be pleased with her), and I said: “O Messenger of Allah! Please wait, I want to ask you about an issue. I sell camels in Baqi’, I fix the price in dinars and receive payment in dirhams, and likewise, I fix the price in dirhams and receive payment in dinars.” He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “There is no harm in this, provided that you take the current price of that day and receive the full payment before you separate (i.e., do not leave any ambiguity).”
