Hadith 588
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : ثنا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ ، قَالَ : ثنا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ : ثنا أَبُو بِشْرٍ ، قَالَ : سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْمُتَوَكِّلِ ، يُحَدِّثُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ : إِنَّ نَاسًا مِنْ أَصْحَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَزَلُوا بِحَيٍّ مِنْ أَحْيَاءِ الْعَرَبِ فَلَمْ يَقْرُوهُمْ وَلَمْ يُضَيِّفُوهُمْ ، قَالَ : فَاشْتَكَى سَيِّدُهُمْ فَأَتَوْنَا ، فَقَالُوا : عِنْدَكُمْ دَوَاءٌ ؟ فَقُلْنَا : نَعَمْ ، وَلَكِنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَقْرُونَا وَلَمْ تُضَيِّفُونَا فَلا نَفْعَلُ حَتَّى تَجْعَلُوا لَنَا جُعْلا ، فَجَعَلُوا لَهُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ قَطِيعًا مِنَ الْغَنَمِ ، " فَجَعَلَ رَجُلٌ مِنَّا يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْهِ فَاتِحَةَ الْكِتَابِ ، فَلَمَّا أَتَوُا النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَكَرْنَا ذَلِكَ لَهُ ، قَالَ : مَا أَدْرَاكَ أَنَّهَا رُقْيَةٌ ؟ ، وَلَمْ يَذْكُرْ نَهْيًا مِنْهُ ، فَقَالَ : " كُلُوا وَاضْرِبُوا لِي مَعَكُمْ بِسَهْمٍ فِي الْجُعَلِ " .
Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that some companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) stayed as guests with a tribe of the Arabs, but they did not show them any hospitality or courtesy. The chief of that tribe became ill, so they came to us and said, "Do you have any remedy?" We said, "Yes! But since you did not show us any hospitality, we will not treat him without agreeing on a wage." So they allotted a flock of sheep for them. One of us began to recite Surah Al-Fatihah over him. When we came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), we mentioned this to him, and he said, "How did you know that it is a Surah for ruqyah (spiritual healing)?" He did not forbid them from doing so. He also said, "Eat yourselves and set aside my share from the wage as well."
