Nafi' reports that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) performed the funeral prayer for nine (9) deceased together; the men were placed towards the imam and the women towards the qiblah, and he arranged the rows of the people. (Similarly) the funeral of the wife of Sayyiduna Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) and the daughter of Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyida Umm Kulthum (may Allah be pleased with her), and her son Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) was held, and rows were formed for both together. On that day, the duties of leading the prayer were performed by Sayyiduna Sa'id bin As (may Allah be pleased with him). Among those who performed the funeral prayer were Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas, Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id, and Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with them). The child was placed towards the imam. A man (Ammar, the freed slave of Harith) says: Considering this incorrect, I looked towards Abdullah bin Abbas, Abu Hurairah, Abu Sa'id, and Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with them) and said: "What is this?" So they replied: "This is the Sunnah."
