Hadith 373
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى ، قَالَ : ثَنَا أَبُو الْوَلِيدِ ، قَالَ : ثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، أَنَّ وَفْدَ ثَقِيفٍ قَدِمُوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَأَنْزَلَهُمُ الْمَسْجِدَ لِيَكُونَ أَرَقَّ لِقُلُوبِهِمْ ، فَاشْتَرَطُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنْ لا يُحْشَرُوا وَلا يُعْشَرُوا وَلا يُجَبُّوا وَلا يُسْتَعْمَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ مِنْ غَيْرِهِمْ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " لا تُحْشَرُونَ وَلا تُعْشَرُونَ وَلا يُسْتَعْمَلُ عَلَيْكُمْ غَيْرُكُمْ ، وَلا خَيْرَ فِي دِينٍ لَيْسَ فِيهِ رُكُوعٌ " .
Sayyiduna Uthman bin Abi al-As (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the delegation of Banu Thaqif came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) accommodated them in the mosque so that their hearts might soften. They set a condition upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that they be exempted from jihad, ushr (tithe), and prayer, and that no ruler be appointed over them except from among themselves. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: You are exempted from jihad and ushr, and no ruler will be appointed over you except from among yourselves, but there is no good in a religion in which there is no bowing (prayer).
