Hadith 334

Sayyida Umm Waraqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that when the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to set out for the Battle of Badr, she requested him: "O Messenger of Allah! Let me go with you to the battle. I will treat the sick and bandage the wounded. Perhaps Allah, the Exalted, will grant me martyrdom as well." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stay in your house; Allah, the Exalted, will grant you the reward of martyrdom." The narrator states that she became known by the name "Shaheedah" (the martyress). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit her on Fridays and would say: "Let us go to Shaheedah." She knew the Qur'an, and she requested the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for permission to appoint a mu'adhdhin (caller to prayer) in her house so that she could perform prayers, and he granted her permission.
