Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that during the blessed era of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), there was a drought. One day, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the Friday sermon on the pulpit when a Bedouin stood up and said: “O Messenger of Allah! The wealth has been destroyed and the children are dying of hunger, so please supplicate to Allah for us.” The narrator says: The Prophet raised both his hands, and (at that time) there was not a single cloud in the sky. By the One in Whose hand is my soul! He had not yet lowered his hands when clouds like mountains gathered, and he had not yet descended from the pulpit when I saw rain falling upon the blessed beard of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). From that day until the next Friday, it rained continuously. Then (the next Friday), that same Bedouin or another man stood up and said: “O Messenger of Allah! Now even the houses have collapsed, so please supplicate to Allah (to stop the rain).” So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands and supplicated: “O Allah! Let it rain around us and not upon us.” Whenever he pointed with his hand to any side of the mosque, the clouds would clear from that direction, until Madinah became (clear) like a courtyard, and the valley of Qanat flowed for a month, and everyone coming from the surroundings of Madinah brought news of rain.
