Hadith 187
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: ثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ مِنْهَالٍ، عَنْ هَمَّامٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي صَلَاةِ الظُّهْرِ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُولَيَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسُورَةٍ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ وَكَانَ يُسْمِعُنَا أَحْيَانًا الْآيَةَ وَكَانَ يُطِيلُ فِي الْأُولَى مَا لَا يُطِيلُ فِي الثَّانِيَةِ وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْأُخْرَتَيْنِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ وَكَذَلِكَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ قَالَ: وَكَذَلِكَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْعَصْرِ قَالَ: وَكَذَلِكَ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ قَالَ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ: وَرَوَاهُ مَخْلَدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ عَنِ الْأَوْزَاعِيِّ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ بِهَذَا الْإِسْنَادِ هَكَذَا، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ لَمْ يَذْكُرْ: وَصَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ حَدَّثَنَاهُ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنِ الْحُمَيْدِيِّ عَنْهُ
Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to recite Surah Al-Fatihah and an additional Surah in each of the first two rak‘ahs of the Zuhr prayer, and sometimes he would let us hear a verse. He used to make the first rak‘ah longer than the second, and in each of the last two rak‘ahs, he would recite (only) Surah Al-Fatihah. Abu Qatadah says: In the ‘Asr and Fajr prayers, he used to do the same. Abu Muhammad (may Allah have mercy on him) says: This narration is also reported through another chain, but in that, there is no mention of the Fajr prayer.
