Hadith 1597
1597 صحيح حديث أَبي مُوسى الأَشْعَرِيِّ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: قَدِمْتُ، أَنَا وَأَخِي مِنَ الْيَمَنِ، فَمَكثْنَا حِينًا مَا نُرَى إِلاَّ أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللهِ بْنَ مَسْعُودٍ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ بَيْتِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، لِمَا نَرَى مِنْ دُخُولِهِ وَدُخُولِ أُمِّهِ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ
Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that my brother and I came from Yemen (to Madinah Tayyibah) and stayed here for a period of time. During this entire period, we kept thinking that Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was a member of the household of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), because we ourselves used to see Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) and his mother frequently coming and going in the house of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Hadith 1598
1598 صحيح حديث عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ خَطَبَ، فَقَالَ: وَاللهِ لَقَدْ أَخَذْتُ مِنْ فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِضْعًا وَسَبْعِينَ سُورَةً، وَاللهِ لَقَدْ عَلِمَ أَصْحَابُ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَنِّي مِنْ أَعْلَمِهِمْ بِكِتَابِ اللهِ، وَمَا أَنَا بِخَيْرِهِم قَالَ شَقِيقٌ (رَاوِي الْحَدِيثِ) : فَجَلَسْتُ فِي الْحِلَقِ أَسْمعُ مَا يَقُولُونَ، فَمَا سَمِعْتُ رَدًّا يَقُولُ غَيْرَ ذَلِكَ
Hazrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) delivered a sermon and said: By Allah, I have learned more than seventy surahs directly from the blessed tongue of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). By Allah, the companions of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) know very well that I am the most knowledgeable among them regarding the Holy Qur'an, although I am not better than them. Shaqiq (the narrator of the hadith) stated that then I sat in the gathering to hear the opinion of the companions, to see what they would say, but I did not hear anyone refute this statement.
Hadith 1599
1599 صحيح حديث عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: وَاللهِ الَّذِي لاَ إِلهَ غَيْرُهُ مَا أُنْزِلَتْ سُورَةٌ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ إِلاَّ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ أَيْنَ أُنْزِلَتْ وَلاَ أُنْزِلَتْ آيَةٌ مِنْ كِتَابِ اللهِ إِلاَّ وَأَنَا أَعْلَمُ فِيمَ أُنْزِلَتْ وَلَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا أَعْلَمَ مِنِّي بِكِتَابِ اللهِ تُبَلِّغُهُ الإِبِلُ لَرَكِبْتُ إِلَيْهِ
Hazrat Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated: By Allah, besides whom there is no deity, I know about every surah of the Book of Allah that has been revealed, where it was revealed, and I know about every verse of the Book of Allah that has been revealed, about whom it was revealed. And if I come to know that there is someone who knows more about the Book of Allah than I do, and camels can take me to him (i.e., his house is very far), then I would travel to him and acquire that knowledge from him.
Hadith 1600
1600 صحيح حديث عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو عَنْ مَسْرُوقٍ، قَالَ: ذُكِرَ عَبْدُ اللهِ عِنْدَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، فَقَالَ: ذَاكَ رَجُلٌ لاَ أَزَالُ أُحِبُّهُ بَعْدَ مَا سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقولُ: اسْتَقْرِئوا الْقُرْآنَ مِنْ أَرْبَعَةٍ: مِنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ مَسْعُودٍ (فَبَدَأَ بِهِ) ، وَسَالِم مَوْلَى أَبِي حُذَيْفَةَ، وَأُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ، وَمُعَاذِ بْنِ جَبَلٍ
Masruq narrated that when Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) was mentioned in the presence of Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him), he said, "I will always love him, because I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: 'Learn the Qur'an from four persons: Abdullah bin Mas'ud'—the Prophet (peace be upon him) started with Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him)—'and Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifah, Ubayy bin Ka'b, and Mu'adh bin Jabal.'"
