Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a garden of Madinah (Bir Aris) when a person came and asked for the door to be opened. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Open the door for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." I opened the door and it was Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). I conveyed to him the glad tidings of Paradise as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said, and he praised Allah for it. Then another person came and asked for the door to be opened. On this occasion too, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Open the door for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise." I opened the door and it was Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). When I informed him of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) words, he also praised and glorified Allah. Then a third person came and asked for the door to be opened. For him as well, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Open the door for him and give him the glad tidings of Paradise after the trials and tribulations with which he will be faced (in this world)." He was Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him). When I informed him of the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) words, after praising and glorifying Allah, he said, "Allah alone is the Helper."

Hazrat Abu Musa Ash'ari (may Allah be pleased with him) performed ablution one day in his house and set out with the intention that today he would not leave the company of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) for the whole day. He narrated that then he presented himself at the Prophet’s Mosque and inquired about the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The people present there informed him that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already left and had gone in a certain direction. So, I kept asking about you and followed behind you, and finally I saw that you were entering the well of Aris (near Quba). I sat at the door, and its door was made of palm branches. When you (peace and blessings be upon him) had relieved yourself, you also performed ablution, so I came to you. I saw that you were sitting on the edge of the well of Aris (the well of that garden), your shins uncovered, and your feet dangling in the well. I greeted you and then returned to sit at the garden’s door. I thought that today I would act as the doorkeeper of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Then Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and wanted to open the door, so I asked, “Who is it?” He said, “Abu Bakr!” I said, “Wait a moment.” Then I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and said, “Abu Bakr is at the door and seeks permission to enter.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise.” I came to the door and said to Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), “Please enter, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you glad tidings of Paradise.” Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) entered and sat on the edge of the well to the right of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he also dangled his feet in the well, just as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had done, and uncovered his shins as well. Then I returned and sat in my place. When I left, I had left my brother performing ablution. He was to come with me. I thought to myself, “If only Allah would inform so-and-so,” meaning his brother, “and bring him here.” Meanwhile, someone knocked at the door. I asked, “Who is it?” He said, “Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him).” I said, “Wait a moment.” So I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and after greeting, I said, “Umar ibn Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) is at the door and seeks permission to enter.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise.” I returned and said, “Please enter, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you glad tidings of Paradise.” He also entered and sat on the edge of the well to the left of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and dangled his feet in the well. I again came and sat at the door, thinking, “If only Allah wished good for so-and-so (the brother of Abu Musa) and brought him here.” Meanwhile, another person came and knocked at the door. I asked, “Who is it?” He replied, “Uthman ibn Affan.” I said, “Wait a moment.” Then I went to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him about him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “Give him permission and give him glad tidings of Paradise for a calamity that will befall him.” I came to the door and said to him, “Please enter. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you glad tidings of Paradise for a calamity that will befall you.” When he entered, he saw that there was no space on the platform, so he sat on the other side facing the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Hazrat Sa'id bin Musayyib (the narrator from Hazrat Abu Musa) said, “From this, I have interpreted their graves.”
