Hadith 1545
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated that when Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was placed on his bier (after his martyrdom), all the people gathered around his blessed body and began to pray for him and seek forgiveness for him. The body had not yet been lifted, and I was also present there. In this state, suddenly someone held my shoulder; I looked and it was Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). Then he prayed for mercy for Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and, addressing his body, said: "You have not left anyone after you whom I would wish to meet Allah with deeds like his, and by Allah, I was already certain that Allah would keep you with your two companions. My certainty was because I often heard these words from the blessed tongue of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him): 'I, Abu Bakr, and Umar went. I, Abu Bakr, and Umar entered. I, Abu Bakr, and Umar came out.'"

Hazrat Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Once I was sleeping, and in a dream I saw that people were being presented before me and they were wearing shirts. Some had shirts reaching up to their chests, and some had shirts lower than that. (Then) Umar bin Al-Khattab was brought before me. The shirt he was wearing, he was dragging it. (That is, his shirt was so long that it reached the ground.) The companions (may Allah be pleased with them) asked: O Messenger of Allah! What is the interpretation of this? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: (It means) religion.

Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: I was sleeping, and (in that state) a bowl of milk was brought to me. I drank from it abundantly, until I saw freshness coming out from my fingernails. Then I gave the remainder (of the milk) to Umar bin Al-Khattab.
Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: I was sleeping when, in a dream, I saw myself at a well on which there was a bucket. I drew as much water from that bucket as Allah willed. Then Ibn Abi Quhafah (Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him) took it and he drew one or two buckets. There seemed to be some weakness in his drawing. May Allah forgive his weakness. Then the bucket turned into a very large bucket and ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab took it in his hand. I have not seen such a strong man who could draw water like ‘Umar. He drew so much water that the people watered their camels to their fill from the reservoir.

Hadith 1549
Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: I saw in a dream that I was drawing water from a well with a large bucket, from which a young she-camel was being given milk. Then Abu Bakr came and he also drew one or two buckets, but with weakness, and may Allah forgive him. Then Umar came, and in his hand the bucket turned into a very large bucket. I have not seen a stronger and more magnificent person than him who could work with such strength. He drew so much that the people became satisfied and watered their camels and took them to their places.

Narrated Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: I entered Paradise, or (he said): I went to Paradise, and there I saw a palace. I asked, "Whose palace is this?" The angels replied, "It belongs to Umar bin Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)." I wanted to enter it, but I refrained because I knew of your sense of honor (ghirah). Upon this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "O Messenger of Allah! May my parents be sacrificed for you, O Prophet of Allah! Would I feel any sense of honor (ghirah) towards you?"

Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that we were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he said: I saw Paradise in a dream. I saw a woman there performing ablution at the edge of a palace. I asked, "Whose palace is this?" The angels replied, "This is the palace of Umar bin Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)." I remembered his sense of honor and immediately turned back. Upon hearing this, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) began to weep and said, "O Messenger of Allah! Would I feel a sense of honor even with you?"

Hazrat Sa’d bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that once Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission to enter upon the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). At that time, some Qurayshi women, the pure wives, were sitting with him, talking to him and asking him (for an increase in expenses), raising their voices. But as soon as Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sought permission, those women quickly went behind the curtain. Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was smiling. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: May Allah always keep you smiling, O Messenger of Allah! He (the Prophet) said: I was amazed at these women who were just with me, but when they heard your voice, they quickly ran behind the curtain. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: But O Messenger of Allah! You were more deserving that they should fear you. Then he said (to the wives): O enemies of your own souls! You fear me but do not fear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The wives replied: Yes, that is the case, because you are much harsher in temperament than the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: By Him in Whose hand is my soul, (O Umar!) if even Satan meets you on a path, he immediately leaves that path and takes another.

Narrated Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them): When Abdullah bin Ubayy (the hypocrite) died, his son Abdullah bin Abdullah (who was a devout Muslim) came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and requested that he (peace be upon him) give his shirt for his father’s shroud. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted his shirt. Then he requested that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also lead the funeral prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) proceeded to lead the funeral prayer. At that moment, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) held onto the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) garment and said: O Messenger of Allah! Are you going to lead his funeral prayer, even though Allah Almighty has forbidden you from doing so? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) replied: Allah Almighty has given me a choice, saying: “Whether you ask forgiveness for them or do not ask forgiveness for them. Even if you ask forgiveness for them seventy times, Allah will never forgive them.” So I will ask forgiveness for him more than seventy times, perhaps Allah will forgive him. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: But he was a hypocrite. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with them) narrated that in the end, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) led his funeral prayer. After that, Allah Almighty revealed this command: “And never (O Muhammad) pray for any of them who dies, nor stand at his grave.”
