Hazrat Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that some companions (may Allah be pleased with them) of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) were on a journey. During the journey, they stopped at an Arab tribe. The companions wanted the people of the tribe to host them, but they refused to host them and clearly declined. Coincidentally, the chief of that tribe was bitten by a snake. The people of the tribe tried everything, but their chief did not recover. One of their men said, "Let us go and ask those people who have come and stopped here. Perhaps they have something for incantation and healing." So the people of the tribe came to them and said, "Brothers! Our chief has been bitten by a snake. We have tried every possible means for him, but nothing has worked. Do you have anything for incantation?" One of the companions said, "By Allah! I will perform incantation on him, but we had asked you for hospitality and you refused. Therefore, I will not perform the incantation without a fee." Eventually, they agreed on a flock of sheep as payment. That companion went there and recited 'Alhamdulillahi Rabbil 'Alamin' repeatedly as an incantation. It seemed as if someone's ropes had been untied. The chief stood up and began to walk, with no sign of pain or discomfort remaining. It is narrated that then they paid the agreed fee to the companions. Someone said, "Distribute it," but the one who had performed the incantation said, "Let us first go to the service of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mention this to him. After that, we will see what command he gives." So all of them went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and mentioned it to him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "How did you know that Surah Al-Fatiha is also a ruqyah (incantation)?" After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "You did the right thing. Distribute it and allocate a share for me as well." Upon saying this, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) smiled.
