Narrated Asma bint Abi Bakr (may Allah be pleased with her): When Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) married me, he had nothing on the face of the earth except a camel and his horse. He had no wealth, no slave, nothing else. I used to graze his horse, give it water, sew its bucket, and knead the dough. I could not bake bread well, so some Ansari girls would bake bread for me. They were very truthful and loyal women. The land that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had given to Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him), I used to carry date stones from it on my head. That land was two miles away from my house. One day, I was coming with the date stones on my head when I met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on the way. Several men from the Ansar tribe were with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called me and then (to make his camel kneel) said, "Akh." The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted me to ride behind him on his mount, but I felt shy to walk with men and also considered Zubair's (may Allah be pleased with him) sense of honor. Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) was very protective. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) also understood that I was feeling shy, so he moved ahead. Then I came to Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him about the incident, that I had met the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), I had date stones on my head, and some of his companions were with him. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made his camel kneel for me to ride, but I felt shy and also considered your sense of honor. Upon this, Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! What grieved me more was that you had to go out to bring the date stones. If you had ridden with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), it would not have been a matter of jealousy (because Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) was both his sister-in-law and his wife’s sister)." After that, my father Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a slave to me, who started doing all the work for the horse, and I became free from worry, as if my noble father Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) had set me free by sending the slave.
