Hazrat Abu Sa'id Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that I was in a gathering of the Ansar when Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) came as if he was anxious. He said, "I sought permission to enter at 'Umar's (may Allah be pleased with him) place three times, but I did not receive any reply, so I returned." (When 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) found out), he asked, "What prevented you (from entering)?" I said, "I asked for permission to enter three times, and when I did not receive any reply, I returned. And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said that when any of you seeks permission to enter three times and is not granted permission, he should return." 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! You must bring a witness for this companionship of the hadith." (Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) asked the people in the gathering), "Is there anyone among you who has heard this hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)?" Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! No one will stand with you to testify to this except the youngest person in the group." Abu Sa'id said, "I was the youngest person in the group, so I stood up with him and said to 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that indeed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said so."
