Hadith 1386
Hazrat Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) had a son who was ill. Abu Talha had gone out somewhere when the child passed away. When he (tired and weary) returned, he asked, “How is the child?” His wife, Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her), replied, “He is more at peace than before.” Then she placed the evening meal before him and Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) ate. After that, he had intercourse with her, and when they were finished, she said, “Bury the child.” In the morning, Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) went to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of the incident. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, “Did you have intercourse last night?” He replied, “Yes.” The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed, “O Allah! Bless both of them.” Then a child was born to them, so Abu Talha (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me to take him carefully to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). Accordingly, he was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and Umm Sulaim (may Allah be pleased with her) sent some dates along with the child. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took the child and asked, “Is there anything with him?” The people said, “Yes, there are dates.” He took them, chewed them, then took them out of his mouth and placed them in the child’s mouth, and thus performed tahneek for the child and named him Abdullah.

Hazrat Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a boy was born to me, so I took him to the service of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) named him Ibrahim, softened a date with his blessed teeth and put it in his mouth, and prayed for blessings for him, then gave him back to me. This was the eldest son of Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him).

Hadith 1388
Hazrat Asma (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated that Abdullah bin Zubair (may Allah be pleased with him) was in her womb, and during those days, when the term of pregnancy was complete, I set out for Madinah. Upon reaching, I stayed at Quba, and it was there that Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) was born. Then I took him to the service of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and placed him in his lap. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for a date, chewed it, and then put it in the mouth of Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him). Thus, the very first thing that entered Abdullah’s mouth was the blessed saliva of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). After that, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for him and asked Allah for blessings for him. Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) was the first child born after the migration.

Sahl bin Sa’d (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Mundhir bin Abi Usaid (may Allah be pleased with him) was born, so he was brought to the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace be upon him) placed the child on his thigh. Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with him) was sitting. The Prophet (peace be upon him) became occupied with something in front of him (and his attention was diverted from the child). Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered regarding the child, and he was lifted from the Prophet’s thigh. Then, when the Prophet (peace be upon him) turned his attention back, he said: “Where is the child?” Abu Usaid (may Allah be pleased with him) replied, “O Messenger of Allah! We have sent him home.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, “What is his name?” He replied, “So-and-so.” The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “Rather, his name is Mundhir.” Thus, on that very day, the Prophet (peace be upon him) named him Mundhir.

Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was superior to all people in good character. I had a brother named Abu Umair. He stated that I think the child had been weaned. Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) would come, he would jokingly say to him, "O Abu Umair! What happened to your little bird?" He used to play with that child.
