Hadith 1380
1380 صحيح حديث أَنَس رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: دَعَا رَجُلٌ بِالْبَقِيعِ، يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: لَمْ أَعْنِكَ قَالَ: سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكُنْيَتِي
Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a person called out in Baqi', "O Abu al-Qasim!" The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) looked towards him, so the person said, "I did not call you, I called that other man." The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Name yourselves with my name, but do not use my kunya.
Hadith 1381
1381 صحيح حديث جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ الأَنْصَارِيِّ، قَالَ: وُلِدَ لَرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلاَمٌ، فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ فَقَالَتِ الأَنْصَارُ: لاَ نَكْنِيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، وَلاَ نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا فَأَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وُلِدَ لِي غُلاَمٌ، فَسَمَّيْتُهُ الْقَاسِمَ، فَقَالَتِ الأَنْصَارُ: لاَ نَكْنِيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، وَلاَ نُنْعِمُكَ عَيْنًا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَحْسَنَتِ الأَنْصَارُ، سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي، وَلاَ تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي، فَإِنَّمَا أَنا قَاسِمٌ
Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a child was born in our tribe, and they named him Qasim. The Ansar said, "We will never call you by the kunya Abu al-Qasim, and we will not give you this comfort." Hearing this, that Ansari came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said, "O Messenger of Allah! A child has been born in my house, and I have named him Qasim, but the Ansar say, 'We will not call you by the kunya Abu al-Qasim, and we will not give you this comfort.'" The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "The Ansar have spoken correctly. Name after my name, but do not take my kunya, because I am al-Qasim."
Hadith 1382
1382 صحيح حديث جَابِرٍ رضي الله عنه، قَالَ: وُلِدَ لِرَجُلٍ مِنَّا غُلاَمٌ، فَسَمَّاهُ الْقَاسِمَ، فَقُلْنَا: لاَ نَكْنِيكَ أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ، وَلاَ كَرَامَةَ فَأَخْبَرَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ: سَمِّ ابْنَكَ عَبْدَ الرَّحْمنِ
Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that a child was born to one of us, and he named him "Qasim." We said to him, "We will not call you Abu al-Qasim (the father of Qasim), because Abu al-Qasim was the kunyah (patronymic) of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor will we do so out of respect for you." That person informed the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, "Name your son Abdur-Rahman."
Hadith 1383
1383 صحيح حديث أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلاَ تَكْتَنُوا بِكْنْيَتِي
Hazrat Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Name yourselves after me, but do not take my kunya.
